The Murderers Dirge
By Frank De Canio

We offer prayers for the man who murdered,
breaking the bonds of love and trust.
Taking arms against his brother,
he stands with bloodied hands, accursed.

Paying in kind the one who murdered,
in likeness to his mindless lust,
we bear a kindred guilt, like brothers,
and grind salvation in the dust.

We mourn again, now two men murdered,
with incense rising from the dust.
Arm in arm, they ascend like brothers.
Newly born, may they mourn for us.
I was born and bred in New Jersey, work in New York. I love music of all kinds, from Bach to World, Latin pop and opera. Shakespeare is my consolation and writing my hobby, I like Dylan Thomas, Keats, Wallace Stevens, and Frost as poets and Sylvia Path also.
