The Basic requirements then and today, are that a man or woman be dedicated to the thinking of law and order, and submit to a screening of his/her abilities, and in-depth background investigation, and other necessary requirements that make for a good Police Officer.

All
active officers are required to take comprehensive special training courses covering the Illinois Criminal Law procedures
(Chapter 720).

This includes firearms, and use of same, Self-defense, Traffic Control and Crowd Control, plus other law enforcement subjects, in addition to ongoing training to qualify and remain in active officer with our organization. They are also required to purchase all their equipment as specified by Illinois Police Reserves to perform the duties of a Qualified Police Officer.

All these services are available
only to Constituted Police Authorities, under the laws of the State of Illinois. The municipality of community that requests the assistance of the Illinois Police Reserves, must furnish insurance coverage, like that of their own regular department while they are on duty.

The Illinois Police Reserves Officers requested by the Chief of Police to assist their regular officers, are sworn in as a Peace Officer and have the same powers as the police they are assisting. After detail has ended, the Illinois Police Rerserves Officer revert back to a civilian status.

All that is asked in return for our services is that the community make a contribution to cover our operational expenses for the officers on duty for the day. No member of the Illinois Police Reserves receives any remuneration whatever for services rendered except the personal satisfaction of service and commitment contibuting to the theme of Law and Order which is the basic of our Organization.

The hundreds of letters received over the years from the many Chiefs of Police, Mayors, Village Managers, etc. testifying to the value of assistance of the Illinois Police Reserves Officers at the many details, is living testimony to the value of the Illinois Police Reserves and its many years of unblemished service to the many communities it has served.
