Welcome To The

Hpen Website!

What is Hpen?

Hpen (Homelearners physical education and nutrition) is an inclusive group of home school families who learn all about strength, flexibility, endurance, team sports, nutrition, motor skills development and much more.

When was Hpen started?

Hpen was founded by Anna Rhoads in September, 2000, in the Rancho Cucamonga area.  Anna is now going on her 15th year of home schooling and is a parent/teacher of four children. She wrote articles on physical education and nutrition for the IEAH newsletter for one year which were enjoyed by the readers. In September, 2000, she started a P.E. class through IEAH. This class was successful, and in October, 2000, she began a yahoo egroups, which enabled parents to get immediate updates on locations and articles on nutrition. You are welcome to join Hpen by subscribing to: [email protected]

Anna’s Education:

Anna understands the importance of physical fitness and eating nutritiously. She believes that if we instill good habits in our children, they will grow up to live long, healthy lives. Anna became certified to teach Presidential Challenge in 1999. During that year, in addition to writing the P.E. and nutrition articles, she taught at a home school co-ed co-op located in Fontana which was led by Heather Trout. Anna began to train with personal trainers at the Woman’s Fitness Gym in Upland and was taught step aerobic, timing, and rhythm movement.

Anna has also been learning and training from AFAA’s lecture certification, and she has been keeping in touch by phone and learning from Author Lisa Moglia-Johnson, RD. Lisa's book is entitled Nutrition Rap: Nutrition & Fitness Handbook for Everybody.

In September, 2001, Anna began working independently with other home school families in the Inland Empire. She has taught for the LIFE Homeschool Group in San Dimas, and in January, 2002, she was hired at the Women’s Fitness Club in Rancho Cucamonga to teach step aerobics. The owners learned of her experience working with children and asked her to teach a children's aerobic class at the gym which has become very popular. Starting in Fall, 2002, The Women’s Fitness Club will be offering children's P.E. classes to all home schoolers. Please call the gym for more information (909) 980-7487.
