In 1924 the first Velociraptor fossil was found in Mongolia by H. F. Osborn. There are about a dozen Velociraptor fossils found so far. Fossils have been found in Mongolia ,Russia ,and China. Anatomy The Velociraptor was a swift dinosaur who walked around on two legs. This carnivore had 80 sharp ,curved teeth in a long ,flat snout. It had a neck the shape of an ?s?,arms and claws with three fingers ,two long ,thin powerful legs with clawed feet that had four toes. This predator could have ran 40 miles per hour when sprinting. It may have been about 5 to 6 feet long and its height was 3 feet. Velociraptor could have weighed 15 to 33 pounds. It had a long tail to help balance it and make quick turns. Behavior/ Diet The Velciraptor was one of the smallest dinosaurs. They were one of the most deadliest predators. It could have attacked very large animals when hunting in packs. Since it was a carnivore ,it ate anything it could tear apart. Velociraptor could have hunted in packs and may have ate protoceratops or duck-billed dinosaurs. |
