The Oviraptor was discovered in the Gobi desert of Mongolia. It was named by Henry F. Osborn. You can find fossilized Oviraptor eggs and nests in southern Mongolia. Anatomy Oviraptor was omnivorous ,bird-like ,and small. It weighed 55 to 76 pounds and was 6 to 8 feet long. This dinosaur was two-legged and fast-moving. It had a long tail and a flexible neck ,short ,strong arms ,and three fingers on each hand. It had three toes and each claw was about 3 inches long. It had a parrot-like head with a short beak that had no teeth. It had extremely strong jaws that were used for crushing. They had stumpy crests on they�re snouts that were probably used to attract mates. Period/ Environment The Oviraptor lived in the Cretaceous period. At this time there was a lot of activity going on. Behavior/ Diet Oviraptor was a pretty smart dinosaur who cared for its eggs. It was an omnivore which meant it at plants and meat. It probably ate dinosaur eggs , Lizards ,insects and seeds.The word Oviraptor means �egg stealer� because it was thought to eat only eggs. |
