Hala Kamil is rescued on the road by Dirk Pitt during the raid at Senator Pitt's family lodge in Colorado and the chase is on. Dirk Pitt, Al Giordino, Lily Sharp, and Hala Kamil go car skiing in the L-29 Cord and end up in the ski facility cocktail lounge.

Treasure (28, 29)

Dirk Pitt and Maeve Fletcher leave the party in Pitt's J2X Allard and the chase is on. Dirk Pitt uses a "red herring" trick to end the chase.

Shock Wave (26)

Dirk Pitt and Julia Lee leave St. Julien Perlmutter's house and the chase is on. Dirk Pitt ends up driving the Deusenberg through the Reflecting Pool to end the chase.

Flood Tide (27)

Dirk Pitt, Al Giordino, Loren Smith, and Kelly Egan leave restaurant after encountering Zale. They pile into the Packard and the chase is on. The chase ends at a designated ambush location arranged by Admiral Sandecker.

Dirk Pitt is dressed like the queen of the May and plays the part: red suede pull-on boots, tight multicolored striped duck pants, two-inch wide tapestry belt, skin-stretched purple sweater, yellow neckerchief, Ben Franklin glasses, and a tasseled knit cap.

Dirk Pitt arrives at Oskar Rondeheim's party in costume: a red jacket with ruffles on the collar and sleeves, brocaded yellow tapered breeches, red suede boots, brown silk sash around the waist with tasseled end hanging to within inches of his knees, and a lorgnette hangs around his neck by a small gold chain.
