A little
ADBA Show info for those who don't know...
The
ADBA Conformation Shows began in 1977 when, Ralph Greenwood, recognized
the need for a legal sport to promote support for the breed. He went to
the actual dogmen & asked them, "What physical characteristics made
a winning pit champion?", and that is how they formed the ADBA Conformation
Standard. This way we could still enjoy the dogs and what they are supposed
to look like "athletic specimens" but show them in a legal manner. We wish
it was like the old days when our breed was not despised by society or
owned by a million idiots, but those days are long gone and people need
to start doing something positive with your dogs. Having a dog with
an ADBA Show title or AADR Show title, does not make it "just a pretty
foo foo dog". They still look like the gladiators of the past, but we can
enjoy them in public in a positive and most important LEGAL way. These
types of shows are a legal outlet for ALL our dogs & those of you that
can't realize that YOU are very ignorant.
WAKE UP FOLKS, it's 2006 things
have changed!!! It's NOT about breeding ONLY for looks like the
UKC or AKC...Breeding "only" for looks makes us our breeds own worst enemy
and ruins working breeds, just look what it's done to all the AKC breeds.
We know it did not matter what a bulldog looked like in the past, it was
bred to work. If it was successful, it was bred & it's genes passed
on regardless of looks. We know it's the total package that was the intention
of the great breeders of old, no matter WHAT the task was that was asked
of it... be it bringing down a wild boar, in the pit, working on the farm
or a family PET... Form is necessary to perform the function... what
good is a short legged, cowhocked big headed weight pull dog? We feel this
breed must have a balance of type & character to go the distance. Show
what you breed, educate others and leave the illegal stuff in the past,
it's time to move on, We have progressed as a society and there
are many legal, fun and working events our bulldogs can compete in nowadays.
These shows are for fun & informal where you & your family can
attend. We have attended shows on and off for years and have a good time
while we're there. It's not just about winning a trophy or a ribbon, it's
about THE DOGS!!! The shows are a great way to socialize your dogs and
meet other breed lovers. Go to a Show, if ya like bulldogs you'll enjoy
yourself. Remember it's about the preservation of the breed... There is
POWER IN UNITY Folks!!!!!
