The Abbot House
“Alex?” Wesley gasped.
“Hello Wesley” she replied.
“What are you doing here?”
“My daughter’s in hospital, I wasn’t going to stay away”
“How did you find out?”
“I called her” Will interrupted.
“Why?” asked Wes.
“She had a right to know.” Will argued, standing in front of his mother.
“She gave that right up when she walked out”
Alexandra cleared her throat. “I just want to be with Ashley while she
recovers”
“And then what, you walk out?” Wesley reminded Alexandra of her past actions.
“No. This time I’m here to stay”
Josh’s Apartment
Jessica put her coat on.
“You're leaving?” asked Josh, “Already?”
“I told Carrie I’d meet her” Jessica replied.
“Dressed like that?”
“No, I’ll go back to my place first and get changed”
Josh handed Jessica the phone.
“Call Carrie, tell her you cant make it”
“I cant do that”
“Why not? You're like a drug Jessica, and I want more”
“And you’ll get it, you just have to wait a little bit”
Jessica pulled Josh closer and kissed him passionately before walking out.
“Wow” Josh thought.
Oakridge Theater
“And the winner of Miss Oakridge 2003 is………Kim Logan” said a man.
Kim squealed and ran over to collect her crown.
“Thank you, all of you, but, this crown shouldn’t have gone to me. I’d like you
all to pray for Ashley Abbot, a fellow contestant who was in an accident and is
currently in a coma. I’m sure the rest of the girls would agree with me that
she is far more deserving of the crown” Kim faked some tears in her acceptance
speech.
Coffee Co
Carrie sat in the coffee shop tapping her fingers anxiously on the table.
Jessica walked in.
“Sorry I’m late, I had something else to do” said Jessica
“Josh or Will?” Carrie replied.
“Very funny. So, what’s the latest?”
“She leaves tonight and gets here tomorrow night”
“Have you thought about what will happen if it doesn’t work?”
“Nope, I really should, huh?”
“Carrie, this is serious, if this doesn’t work, you're life will be a misery”
“It’s a chance I’ll have to take Jess”
“This isn't kids play, Diane said she’d kill you”
“If she wants to kill me, she’s got a fight ahead of her”
THE NEXT DAY
The
Diane walked out of her bedroom. She walked over to the balcony and looked out.
John’s car was gone.
A tear fell from Diane’s eye.
The Abbot House
Alexandra finished applying her mascara and blinked once. She checked her
reflection in the mirror before walking out of the guest bedroom. She walked
along the hallway and stopped when she came to the bedroom she used to share
with Wesley. She opened the door and looked in. It had barely changed since the
last time she saw it. She closed the door again and walked downstairs to the
sound of the doorbell ringing.
“I’ll get it” shouted Wes as he opened it to see Lisa standing in front of him.
Alex stopped halfway down the stairs and silently watched.
“I cant keep it a secret anymore” said Lisa.
“Of course, come in” Wesley replied.
“I cant stay here long, I’m in a hurry. I just need to tell you who put Ashley
in hospital”
“Who was it?”
“The winner”
“What?”
“The person who won the pageant, Kim Logan, she attacked Ashley”
Oakridge International Airport: Parking Lot
Carrie watched as a slim blonde girl walked over to her car holding a suitcase
in either hand. Carrie reached across and opened the passenger door.
“You made it” said Carrie.
“Wild horses couldn’t keep me away”
The Abbot House
“I’m calling the police” Wesley picked up the phone.
“No, you cant” Lisa pleaded.
Alex walked down the stairs.
“She’s right” Alex interrupted, “Leave it to me, I’ll take care of this Kim
Logan”
Alex’s eyes were filled with anger.
Carrie’s Car
Carrie and the girl sat in the car.
“So, have you got the cash?” asked the girl.
“It’ll be in your bank account by tomorrow” Carrie replied.
“Let’s go then”
“Are you sure you want to go through with this?”
“Are you?”
“No, but let’s give it a try”
“Okay”
“Thanks so much for this, Megan”
Kim Logan’s House
Kim sat in her bedroom, polishing her crown. The jewels sparkled like the glint
in her eyes. The doorbell rang.
Kim ran down the stairs. She checked her hair at the mirror by the door, could
be reporters after all, before opening the door. Alex stood in front of her.
“Do I know you?” asked Kim.
“Are your parents home?” asked Alex.
“No, who are you?”
Alex pushed Kim back and walked into the house. She threw Kim against the wall
and held Kim around her neck with one hand.
“I’m Ashley Abbot’s mother” Alex whispered threateningly.
Carrie’s Car
Driving in silence, Carrie smiled at Megan, who looked down and fiddled with
her nails.
“Nervous?” asked Carrie.
“Do they know I’m coming?”
“Jessica does”
“Anyone else?” asked Megan.
“No. Nobody else knows”
Oakridge General Hospital
Nick slipped into Ashley’s hospital room quietly and sat down. He held her hand
gently and leant closer.
“Hi Ashley” he whispered, “School was weird today, got three assignments.
Everyone’s asking after you, hoping you're okay. I cant stay very long, but I
just thought I’d pop in to say hello”
Ashley’s eyes fluttered slightly before opening.
“Nurse! Nurse!” he yelled.
Outside The Sterling Mansion
Carrie and Megan got out of the car and walked up the path to the Sterling
mansion. Carrie opened the door and walked in, followed by Megan. Diane, who was
walking down the stairs, stopped when she saw Megan.
“Hi mom” Megan smiled shyly.
