Heart & Soul

Episode 1.07

Oakridge Auditorium Parking Lot
“Excuse me?” asked Ashley, “Was that a threat?”

“It was a warning, it’s common knowledge that you're the favourite to win Ashley, and there’s no way that’s happening. I’m going to be Miss Oakridge 2002 whether you like it or not, so either stay away or, well I think you know what’ll happen if you turn up” Kim replied.

“Look Kim, it’s a beauty pageant, you can have your little crown if it’s so important to you, but I will be on that stage tomorrow night and if I win, I’ll win fair and square, and if you cant handle the competition, then you shouldn’t have entered”

“You’ve been warned Abbot” Kim sneered, before walking off.

Wilson House
Gillian and Anna sat down in their living room.

“I’m stuffed” Anna patted her stomach.

“Oh I bet you could manage a bit of birthday cake, mom” Gillian replied.

“Maybe just a little bit” she laughed.

“I’ll go get it” Gillian got up and walked into the kitchen.

She turned on the kitchen light and walked over to the counter. She opened the cake box and cut two slices of the cake. Gillian walked over to the cupboard and took out two plates. As she placed the pieces of cakes onto the plates, she saw an envelope sitting by the phone. She walked over and opened it. Inside was a note.
You drive me crazy
She threw the note in the bin.

Café Piazza

Carrie and Jessica sat on the black suede sofas in the coffee shop sipping their cappuccinos out of the huge mugs.

“So, how are the moving plans?” asked Jessica.

“On pause” Carrie replied.

“Why?”

“Diane” Carrie summed it up in one word.

“What, Greg doesn’t want to leave her?”

“No, she threatened me. Something about trying to take her son away from her and breaking up the family”

“Ooh, mafia” Jessica laughed.

“It’s not funny. She threatened to kill me”

“Seriously?” Jessica raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, I don’t know if she meant it literally or just in the heat of the moment, but she said if I take Greg away from her, she’ll kill me” Carrie explained.

“She's just a protective mother” Jessica attempted to reassure her friend.

“There’s only one thing I can do”

“Oh yeah?”

“Call Megan” Carrie’s eyes were deadly serious.

Oakridge General Hospital.
Gillian got off the elevator in the hospital. Another graveyard shift.
She opened her locker and put her stuff in. She closed the door and walked back into the reception area. She walked down one of the wards, but saw Dr. Marshall standing at the bottom with a patient. She turned around on her heels and walked out.

“Gillian” Quentin yelled. Gillian stopped.

“Yes, Dr. Marshall?”

“Could you please bring me Mrs. Jones’ file, it’s in my office”

“Yes, Dr. Marshall” Gillian walked into Quentin’s office and opened his filing cabinet. The door opened and closed again, Gillian turned around, Quentin stood in front of her.

“I just remembered, it’s behind the reception desk” Quentin locked the door.

“What do you want from me?” asked Gillian.

“Nothing, I’m crazy about you” he laughed eerily.

“You're crazy about something but it sure as hell ain’t me”

“Sit down, Miss Wilson” he ordered sternly.

“I’d rather leave, if you don’t mind”

“I do mind, now sit down, and take off your clothes” his tone became more threatening.

“What?  I don’t think so, let me go or I’ll scream this place down”

“Like that’d make a difference, you're in a ward where people are so drugged up that they’re gonna scream anyway” he laughed again.

“Let me out” this wasn’t a plead from Gillian, it was an order.

“Not until you give me what I want” Quentin took off his lab coat and followed it by unzipping his pants.

“What are you doing?”

“Take off your clothes” Quentin grabbed Gillian.

“Let go of me, now!” she screamed.

Quentin threw Gillian against the desk, Gillian had never been so terrified in all her life.

Café Piazza
“That’s it, I’ll call Megan” Carrie made it clear she had already talked herself into it.

“Yeah, because you know Diane and Megan get on so well” Jessica replied.

“Well, if Megan came back from wherever the hell she is, then Diane wouldn’t focus on Greg so much, her attention would be divided” Carrie sounded like she knew it would work, but inside she wasn’t.

“Look Car’, you know that if Megan came back, the only thing Diane would have for her is a slap. Megan ‘deserted the family’ and all that crap when she went traveling. Diane was mad when she left, do you really think all would be forgiven if Megan returned?”

“It’s a chance I’ll take. Right now, Megan’s my only hope to get out of this town”

The Abbot House: Ashley’s Room
Ashley sat on her huge bed, rattled by what Kim had said. Her dress was hung up on her wardrobe door. Her telephone rang. She hoped it was Nick.

“Hello?” Ashley answered the phone sweetly.

“Abbot” Kim’s voice came from the other end.

“How did you get my number?”

“A little bird told me. Now I hope you aren't getting ready to have an early night for the pageant tomorrow” Kim had a sweet but sinister voice.

“I’ve got my face pack on right now” Ashley responded defiantly.

“I told you what’ll happen if you turn up”

“And I told you I don’t care” Ashley went to hang the phone up.

“Look out your window”

Ashley got up and walked over to her window, she opened the curtains and peered out. She could see her jeep, scratched all down the front with one door battered in. She gasped nervously, being careful not to let Kim hear by covering the mouthpiece with her hand.

“If you turn up Abbot, the same thing’ll happen to you” she threatened.

“It’s a chance I’ll have to take. Oops, my answering machine’s picked up this whole call. Silly me. And as for my jeep, I think the police would be very happy to know about it” Ashley sounded victorious.

Before Ashley could continue, a brick flew through her bedroom window and she ducked to miss it. She hit her head against a table and fell to the floor. Kim climbed through the window and with her gloved hands she took the tape out of the machine before climbing back out.
The bedroom door swung open and Wesley stopped in his tracks.

“Oh god, oh god, oh god. WILL! WILL! Get in here!” Wesley ran his fingers through his hair nervously.

Will ran through, buttoning up his shirt.

“What’s happened?” asked Will.

“I don’t have a clue”

“I’ll call the police. Don’t move her, it could injure her even more”

Will ran out of the room and Wesley walked over to Ashley. He knelt down and started to weep.
