Diane came to the guest house and knocked at the door. Greg answered shortly
after.
“Mom, come in” Greg invited his mother inside against his own will.
Diane walked in and sat on the sofa.
“Is Carrie home?” asked Diane.
“No, she’s out with Jessica”
“Oh, right” Diane looked at the pile of brochures on the coffee table.
“What can I do for you?” asked Greg.
“Well, I just came to see Carrie, tell her I stopped by?”
“Sure”
Diane got up and walked out.
THE NEXT DAY
Jessica's Apartment
Jessica picked up the phone.
“Hello…Will, hi…tonight?…I’m kinda
busy…okay, how about you come over to my place later, around 11…seeya later”
Jessica hung up the phone.
Oakridge Auditorium
Ashley sat down in the auditorium with her fellow contestants.
“Now” the organiser spoke like an army major, “You will be required to provide
a talent, as well as your own costumes and do your own make up”
The doors swung open and a stunning girl walked in with an older woman. The
woman looked too good for the girl to be her daughter.
“Lily Kane” the organizer was impressed, “And this must be your daughter
Cassie”
“Yes” Lily responded in a snooty accent.
“Hello” Cassie added.
“Well, you're a little late, but Cassie if you’d sit on one of those chairs and
Lily, if you’d wait outside for the time being”
The Fitch House
Nick and Nathan sat down to pizza and a movie.
“So bro, where’s this girlfriend of yours then?” asked Nathan
“At the Miss Oakridge consultation” Nick replied
“I never had Ashley down as a beauty queen”
“Me either”
“Police are still investigating the death of Calinda Whitehead, no evidence has been found”
The Abbot House: Ashley's Room
Ashley sat by her window brushing her hair. There was a soft knock at the door
before it opened and Wesley walked in.
“How was it?” asked Wes.
“It was okay, but tomorrow I need to go shopping”
“Why?” Wes knew how large Ashley's wardrobe was.
“Well I have to look the part, not just on the night, but during the run up to
it. It says so in the pamphlet they gave us”
Ashley handed her father a small brochure. Wesley skimmed over it.
“And just how much is this gonna cost me?” Wesley
knew this would mean money
“I dunno, but I’m gonna get
a job at a clothes store, that way I’ll get employee discount and snag all the
threads I want”
“Sounds like a good idea to me” Wesley sighed with relief
Jazz & Co
Carrie sat in the bar with Jessica
.
“So, tell me more about what happened with Will” Carrie asked in the form of a
newspaper reporter
“Are you still on about that, give it a break. He came, I didn’t, the end. Now
can we please talk about something else. What’s going
on in your life, Car’?” Jessica snapped.
“Well, I really want to move away from here with Greg, problem is, he’s not so
keen”. Carrie sighed.
“Why would you want to leave Oakridge? It’s where you grew up. Your past is
here” Jessica argued
“That’s just it, this is where I’ve always lived. I
haven't seen the world. Sure, there’s been the odd vacation here and there, but
I haven't lived anywhere else, met new people, tried
new things. My life is totally predictable. Remember when we were kids, and
we’d play with Barbie dolls, yours would always be living the high and glamourous life, a model, a designer, an actress. Mine
would be a housewife, or a teacher. It’s turned out the same in real life”
“Excuse me but I’m not the one who’s married to the son of the richest man in
Oakridge” Jessica stated.
“Yeah, but your life is exciting. The most I have to look forward to in the
near future is a lunch with the mother in law or a few drinks with you” Carrie
tried her best to hide her disappointment with life.
Oakridge General Hospital
Gillian hung up the phone.
“Stuck on the late shift?” asked Nathan, coming out of his office.
“Yep, what about you?” Gillian replied.
“I’m off duty now, I’ll seeya later”
“Yeah, later. Have a good night”
Nathan got into the elevator.
Dr. Quentin Marshall came out of his office.
“Miss Wilson?” he said.
“Yes, Dr….”
“Marshall, Quentin Marshall”
THE NEXT DAY
The Sterling Mansion
Diane knocked the door to the guest house. The door opened and Carrie stood in
front of her.
"Morning, Diane" said Carrie.
“May I come in?”
“You own the place” Carrie had no choice.
Diane sat down on the sofa and was joined by Carrie.
“Where’s Greg?” Diane snooped.
“At work” Carrie replied.
“Good, because there’s something I want to talk to you about”
“Fire away”
“I might have to. I want to know what the hell you think you're playing at
trying to take my son away from me”
“What do you mean, Diane?” asked Carrie.
“Oh I think you know exactly what I mean” Diane replied, picking up the real
estate brochures from the coffee table.
“That’s not what I’m trying to do, Diane. We’re just looking
for a place of our own in town”
“Really? Then would you mind explaining why the brochures are for
