I shot the horns off a deer...

I shot the horns off a deer?

This is one of those believe it or not stories. It’s the 2001-2002 season and I’m hunting in the Cotton Patch is a stand 24’ off the ground, on the high spot of the field. (I’m way up there) I’ve seen deer and turkey every hunt in this stand and I’m not surprised when, across the field, I see a very large buck. The shot was about 150 yards and I didn’t have anything to prop my gun on. I shot and the deer dropped on the spot, was down for a few seconds and then jumped up and ran off, fell down again at the edge of the woods and ran off again. I squeezed off another shot but it was in desperation but I did obviously hit it solid. I take my time and show up at the spot 15 minutes later and I’m not able to see any blood. I look for a good 30 minutes and since it’s getting dark, I head back to the spot where he dropped. I look down and there is an antler lying in the grass. I pick up and you can see where a bullet hit it squarely and went through it breaking it off. About a month later, I’m walking by the spot again and see lying in the grass the other horn! You can see the view from the stand and the horns on the picture page.
