Building the Barn...

The farm can certainly make you enjoy heating/cooling.

Lowry decides that he needs a barn to put a six wheeler and other stuff out at the farm.  I figure what the hell and if I'm going to harvest some deer, I might as well pitch in.

So Lowry and I put our heads together and start to figure out what type of surface to put the barn on...we also scope out different types of barns at Lowe's and other places.  The one that Lowry wanted at first was nothing short of a beer can that wouldn't last for shit...so we go with the DeLuxe version...and we opt for the concrete floor...it will be there forever and even though it may be hard, it will be dry and warm when the time comes....

Lowry and I figure out the dimensions for the surface and then cut the wood at my house.  We go out to the farm to build the frame for the concrete...it's the middle of August and there is NO air conditioning, not even in my car.  We didn't work for but a couple of hours before we were beet red.  It was so hot that we had to go to Quitman to sit in the air conditioning.  Measure twice, cut once usually works but when you are building on the killer, it makes it really hard.  We actually nailed the boards backwards...twice!  We got it re-done right and moved on.  The only thing that we didn't do was match the frame to true north.  We guessed at it and it's only a few degrees off.

Next it was my turn to go down to the farm to meet the concrete journey.  I was no more than two minutes late and he was about to leave...all business this guy was even thought I doubt that he had that much of it.  So he pours the concrete right over the grown up weeds and grass and basically just hauls ass.  He leaves me to smooth it out with just a 2x4.  I did the best I could and then scrawled out 8-29-03 and put Headcoot and my initials in the concrete for posterity's sake.

So now it was time to get the barn built...this was not going to be easy...so I get out there in the afternoon for the delivery and start to get everything ready for the next day.  We get up early in the morning and after a few cups of good coffee, we're ready to build.  We lay out the tracks and I want to get this thing perfectly square but Headcoot is raring to go and not even worried about.  Luckily we were able to get it square enough so that it worked...and after a lot of cuts and scrapes and plenty of frustration, the barn is up and ready to go!  We put in shelves, hooks, and other things to get things out of the way and the Tank ends up fitting in there just perfect.

We are ready to camp!
