The Tank Breaks
Sunday October 5th, 2003 Man, I'm telling you this Tank is almost indestructible, we have been driving OVER trees, through bogs, through mud, up and down steep hills with hardly a bit of trouble. About the only thing that seems to stop it is a tree that is over 20 feet tall or a stump. We were able to plow a field with it and even turn up a field by just zigzagging and doing donuts through the field and letting the tires break up the field so that we can plant grass. But leave it to me and Lowry to tear it up somehow. Once again, we had been getting all kinds of work done. We were putting out corn, scouting fields to plant, taking pictures, putting in post holes and all sorts of stuff when we decide to climb the far end of the hill of death. Almost up the entire hill, we hear this really loud bang and I thought man there's a whole in this thing or something...but we hadn't hit a stump...then it wouldn't get up the hill and there was more popping sounds...turns out we had left the tow rope in the back (and this thing was test rated at 20,000 lbs.). It had somehow gotten tangled up in the gears...
after Lowry had tried to drag it out with winch but the wheels were locked, we finally figured out to just cut the tow rope and the chain to free the wheels...6 hours later and several trips to get tools at the barn, we finally got it up the hill and then Headcoot was able to drive it back....now it just needs a chain...WE HOPE!
After several tries and lots of cutting on the tow rope, we finally freed her loose but that chain wasn't in much of a mind to want to go back on. Steve had to take a couple of trips down there with a couple of rednecks all hopped up on speed and scratchin' their noggins. The first one couldn't get it on at all, but when we got the right tool (chain tightener) and the second journey out three she went right on...and she's back in action....
