Flight season: mid-June to mid-September.
Population: locally uncommon, first encounter with this species to date, expected small ponds and temporary pools
Length: about 35 mm.
Similar to the Northern Spreadwing,
however the dark triangle at the base of S8 and paraprocts of male Lyre-tipped Spreadwings are distinctive.
Less apt to be confused with the Sweetflag Spreadwing,
particularly the females which are easily separated by their ovipositors.

The terminalia of the male depicted above –
note the distinctively "S"-shaped paraprocts
(the profiles of the teeth on the cerci are also different from those of the Northern and Sweetflag Spreadwings).
The dark triangle on S8 is not very well developed in this individual
(July 12, 2017).
