(parlando:)
The world has honoured famous charmers in poetry and song
But Cleopatra and Doreen and Dolores to history now belong
'Cause we're here to extol the virtues of a new girl far from here*
Maria is the name of the maiden, and the place is called Bahia.*
(Chorus I:)
Ay ay ay Maria, Maria from Bahia
Everybody raves about the beauty of Maria
Guys with a girl** in every port
do** declare she is the sort they would really want to** court.
Ay ay ay Maria, Maria from Bahia,
makes you go Brazilian, oh a million love Maria
You may be one of them, my friend
Then** her charms will seem to blend with the orchids you will send.
But she'll say no, and it's no-go,
because** the little lady has a Romeo - so...
(Chorus II:)
Ay ay ay Maria, Maria from Bahia
If you love her, better stop and drop the whole idea
Just yesterday, on bended knee,**
he** said, "Won't you marry me?" And Maria said, "Si si!"***
Chorus I+II
|: Ay ay ay Maria, Maria from Bahia :|
Hi Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria!
He** said, "Won't you marry me?" And Maria said, "Si si!"***
*So schlecht, da sich "here" auf "Bahia" reimt, sprechen Ersteres sonst nur deutsche Muttersprachler aus ;-)
**Die Starlighters lassen die 4 gesprochenen Eingangszeilen weg, singen "gal" statt "girl", "wanna" statt "want to", "'cause" statt "because", "I" statt "he", "I bent a knee" statt "on bended knee" und lassen das "do" sowie das "then" am Zeilenanfang weg.
***Bei den Starlighters wird bis zuletzt nicht klar, wie die Antwort lautet, denn sie singt zwischen "si si" immer wieder "maybe" ;-)
Aber all das rechtfertigt keine eigene Datei.
