Evanescence

Scroll down for my review of the new Evanescence CD/DVD "Anywhere But Home", which came out in the US on 23rd of November but I got it early. This includes an entire concert in paris. I missed the Perth Concert because someone made me go on holiday. "EVANESCENCE, PLEASE COME BACK TO PERTH. YOU CAN BUNK AT MY HOUSE. IT'LL BE GREAT. WE CAN ORDER PIZZA, RENT SOME MOVIES, JAM."
By the way, if you do happen to know any of the band members personally, please forward that message on. (Also if it happens to come up in conversation, ask Amy if she'll marry me). say Hi to Rocky Gray too.

Reviews

Fallen
Their first widely published album. Their unique style with Amy Lee's beautiful, voice and lyrics coupled with both hard rock guitars, bass and drums; as well as more classical piano and strings makes Fallen a brilliant original album.

Track 1: Going Under
Their second single introduces the album with A sullen, intro from Lee, (don't worry, her voice gets better quickly), then in comes the metal which stays for most of the song. some piano and strings are also included.

Track 2: Bring Me To Life
Their First single, from the Daredevil movie soundtrack. Bring me to life endorses another combination of piano, violin and guitar, bass and drum riffs to create one of the more upbeat songs on the album (despite the lyrics). Also has guest vocalist Paul McCoy of 12 Stones doing a bit of backing.

Track 3: Everybody's Fool
Single number 3 I think. More Heavy guitars etc, plus some strings (i think..) in backing, also piano and backing vocals during the bridge. Another good, heavyish song, good lyrics.

Track 4: My Immortal
their 4th single and the last from this album so far. A real slow down from the last song, just piano and strings and Vocals from Amy Lee. A really nice, slow, mournful song. girls- have a good cry, guys ... do the same I guess.

Track 5: Haunted
Spooky as the name suggests ... starts out creepy and twisted with some CG sound but picks up to heavy rock/violin piano chior stuff again.

Track 6: Tourniquet
One of my favourites from this album. Heavy but with piano and some violin at the end. powerful vocals and 'religious' but decent, meaningful lyrics. and a scary suicidal 2 second bridge.

Track 7: Imaginary
Nicely linked with track 6, intro is violin, main riff is piano and chorus is rock. and a guitar bridge with a backing chior. good vocals... again

Track 8: Taking Over Me
Piano, and rock. Excellent vocals and lyrics. inspiring, depressing and uplifting at the same time.

Track 9: Hello
really melancholy, Piano and strings and mournful Vocals. but good none-the-less

Track 10: My Last Breath
Some CG sounds, plus Piano and Heavy guitars and drums. A good, powerful song, not as depressing as the name suggests (note not as). nice vocals.

Track 11: Whisper
Last Track... wasn't very long was it? oh well quality over quantity. Whisper is a good note to finish on. Backing Chior, Rock Music, Piano, Violins, the lot. good lyrics, Great Vocals.

Overall, a very Powerful, Emotive, Meaningful, Inspiring and Original album, leaves you very satisfied. Also, it's rare to find a style of music that can truly provoke any decent emotion. They deserve every award they've gotten for it and every copy they've sold. Dont steal this one... well not all of it. get yourself a copy. definitely worth a listen.

Anywhere But Home
You're in Luck! Pre-release Review: Today is the 20th of November 2004 Evanescence's new CD/DVD is released on the 23rd. But I have a copy :D... Trouble is barely anyone visits this website so no-one will read my preview review untill it's no-longer a preview. bollocks.

The DVD includes all four music videos to date -tracks one to four of the album Fallen (above); an Entire Concert filmed live in Paris, including several unreleased tracks and an excelent cover of Korn's Thoughtless. Also a long batch of behind the scenes footage of the tour, which includes a whole montage (TEE english was good for something)of the bands' builders bums and bared arses (tch, pervs **Rewinds and watches in slo-mo**). watch it and find out for yourself. The CD is the whole concert plus a studio version of their song 'Missing'.
Heres my Hugely thorough and extensive track-by-track review.

1: Haunted*

2: Going Under*

3: Taking Over Me*

4: Everybody's Fool*

5: Thoughtless
A brilliant Cover of Korn's Thoughtless (from the Untouchables album) better than the original I recon, there's something that Amy has that Jonathan Davis doesn't (and its not boobs, he's got them). A bit of swearing in this one but we're all adults here.

6: My Last Breath*

7: Farther Away
Piano and Rock, Great Vocals again, and a good tribalish drum intro and solo from Rocky Gray.

8: Breath No More
Nice, Mournful vocals with piano. watch out on the playlists here, the one inclosed is for the DVD I think... :S so it's slightly different on the CD

9:My Immortal*

10: Bring Me To Life*

11: Tourniquet*

12: Imaginary*

13: Whisper*

14: Missing
A new one, although i think it might have been released as a bonus track on a single. sounds pretty decent. interesting vocal harmony melody intro thing. Slow, melancholy, sounds good.

*Most of the songs are only slight variations of those in fallen but the vocals are slightly different. So see above for reviews.
