Metal Gear Solid 2 is now a greatest hit game, which means it costs 66% less than it originally retailed for. This game deserves a perfect score at the $59.99 (CDN) retail price, and is only better with its new price tag. The only tough decision is deciding whether to buy this game or save up a couple more bucks for Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, an expansion pack version.

MGS 2 was the most anticipated game for Playstation 2 for the first two years of its existence. When it finally came out in November of 2001 it received mixed reviews. Many gamers thought the first Metal Gear Solid (PSone) is way better because it has Snake as a main character all the way through the game, but have you tried playing the first one after playing this game? You'll miss the First Person Perspective option and the refined controls in the sniper and handguns. The controls in this game are absolutely fantastic. Whether you control Raiden or Snake, you can do pretty much anything you want. Check out the amazing AI in the enemies. The way they communicate and search a room. You can't beat that in ANY other game.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is the most polished Playstation title. The graphics, sound, and controls never glitch-up like in other games. Besides playing perfectly, there are loads of things to do in the game. Get out that Directional microphone during Emma's crossing the struts for some fun. Did you capture the photo of Hideo Kojima in the Tanker level? Did you see Otacon's hilarious reply to the photo of the marine in the kilt? How about the incredibly odd reaction Rose and Colonel give after you take a picture of Jenifers undergarments? There are lots of things to experiment and play with.

This game scores a perfect score because of the way it gets into your skin and takes over your life. Whenever I am in a building with security cameras I think about using a SOCOM to take it out. Plus Ventalation shafts have become an increased curious part of my life. SPOILER -- When the Colonel told me I failed and had to turn off the console, I did. I was so involved with the game that it totally creeped me out.

At $19.99, everyone should own this incredible game.

A Second Opinion:

"MGS2 is probably the prettiest PS2 game you're going to see, and the action ain't not good either! " [submitted by Eques_Ardor]
