"Freedom done right" [submitted by dancingmind ]

GTA3 is arguably the best game ever made (certainly for its time). I bought my PS2 for MGS2, but Grand Theft Auto 3 has become a see-sawing competitor for my favorite game of all time. Now that the game is also available for PC with extra options, it is no wonder why this is one of the best selling games of all time.

The best part of the game is the GAMEPLAY. Everything controls perfectly in the game. Even better, you arent nailed down to a specific mission to enjoy this spot on gaming. I really don't spend much time doing the actual missions, as they are not as rewarding as setting your own goals. What makes this game a winner is the absolute freedom to the game. Sure, there is a storyline behind the game, but you dont have to follow it. Instead, try beating the Firetruck and Ambulance levels to gain extra items at your hideout. The 100 hidden packages are a great way to spend your time and it actually pays off. With Grand Theft Auto 3, you turn on the game and you choose your adventure. Never before has such freedom been granted to a gamer.

My favorite thing to do in GTA3 is cruise through the city. I'm not a violent person and I don't spend as much time killing as most gamers might in this game. I really appreciate the diversity and level design of the islands of the games Liberty City. A lot of credit is due to DMAs efforts in creating a diverse city that includes gothic churches to stadiums to high rise commercial buildings. There are more than a fair share of side missions too like the Taxi missions; a very Crazy Taxi inspired search for fares in the exciting city.

This game is rated M for Mature by the ERSB, but it can be for all gamers. The player decides how violent the game is. Yes, you can murder, steal, harass, and destroy innocent peoples lives, but thats up to you. Despite the fact that there are many flaws in the game like poor pop up in some sections (the town doesn't load up and it looks like you are flying on bluish ground), This game is FREEDOM done RIGHT.
