The Magic of Liz Has Changed My Life

     by Dick Sargent

Many women like to get in one more whack at men. We guys are unfairly branded mysterious, absolutely wrong, or at least another kind of nut. It shouldnt bother me. Any gal that frantic is still trying to find herself. Besides, a lot of fellows are secretly as puzzled by women. I was. Then I started to work with Elizabeth Montgomery. Now no female can make me despair for more than a few minutes. I begin to grin, maddeningly I guess. Im happily remembering the real Elizabeth. Im sure to be astonished by how well she understands men!
Amazingly, shes actually something else. The magic she uses, herself, has affected many lives. Its changed mine. To be truthful, this didnt dawn on me as possible the first times I saw her. On TV, I could tell she was a willowy beauty.  But men seek an irresistible sense of humor. What I overlooked was that she was always in very dramatic shows, so in her acting she had to be quite serious. Suddenly she was a gay charmer in her comedy debut, when she co-starred with Dean Martin in her third movie. That made me wonder what she was, truly, along with her talent. I was informed she was totally in love with director William Asher.
People are apt to suppose you get acquainted automatically with the fascinating names in Hollywood at lavish parties. Thats not a fact, if youre like the Ashers, or me. Elizabeth has depended on professional accomplishments for progress in her career from the moment she decided to try for one. She met Bill when he was the director for her first film and quickly saw he also builds on his work instead of cultivating invitations to get ahead. I agree with them that the entertainment route is unnecessary.
I almost met Elizabeth six years ago when she and Bill were planning
Bewitched. I was asked to be the original Darrin. But I couldnt be because Id already made the pilot for Broadside and was committed to being the stuffy lieutenant in that series if it sold. It lasted only one year. The next season I went into The Tammy Grimes Show because everyone was enthused about it. However, viewers werent. Eight segments were made, only four shown.

(To be continued...This is an incredibly long article and will take forever to type it all. I will add a little bit more as time allows.)
