She was raised by Vice Foreign Minister Darlian who was the Earth's peace Ambassador. Darlian is assasinated by OZ's Lady Une and Relena discovers discovers through his last dying words that she is truly the daughter of the Peacecraft family.
The Sanc Kingdom was home to the Peacecraft family 13 years ago. It was ruled by King Peacecraft. He had two children, Milliardo and Relena. The Earth Alliance wiped out the Sanc Kingdom killing the King. Relena was taken and raised by V.F.M Darlian who was a represenative of the Sanc Kingdom.
Upon returning to Earth from a visit to space. Relena was walking home and came across a body, wearing a military suit, that had washed up on shore. She went to it and saw that it was just a young boy about her age. She called an ambulance. When the boy awakened he asked Relena if he had seen his face and tried covering it. he then attempted to commit suicide but it didn't work so he stole the ambulace that had just pulled up and took off. This was Relena's first encounter with the young man that would change her life forever.
If you haven't guessed it by now, this wondeful young man is Heero. Relena doesn't have to wait long to see Heero again beacuse the next day at school a new student arrives; Heero. Relena invites him to her birthday party and he ripped the invitation telling her, "I'll kill you"
Does this stop Relena from pursuing Heero and butting into his buisiness? Of course not!
Relena next encounters Heero at a Marine base where he is stealing missiles to blow up his Gundam. Relena winds up at the base and questions Heero to what he is doing. He pulls a gun on her and would have shot, but out of the shadows came Duo who shot Heero first.
Don't worry Heero lives and this is surely not the last time Relena and him cross paths.
Even though it is never greatly stressed on, Heero and Relena develop a romantic interest in each other. Neither truly flat out shows it, but it is always evident when they are together. Relena is the one who truly changes Heero. Her kind feelings toward him even when he was trying to kill her bought out humain feelings in him that he might not have known he even had.
Relena eventually makes it back to her birth place the Sanc Kingdom and rebuilds it. Now knowing the truth of her past, Relena decides to continue her real fathers ways and practice pacifism. She even opens a school there for girls that are represenatives of their own respectful nations to teach and learn about pacifism and how it can truly be achieved world wide.
The most interesting pupil would have to be Dorothy Catalonia.
She can be considered Relena's rival. Dorothy loves war and wishes for it, but she also greatly admires Relena or at least appears to. Relena does not mind that Dorothy loves war and said she would enjoy having conversations with her to learn more.
Eventually the Sanc Kingdom comes under attack once again. The find the pacifism of the sanc Kingdom is spreading and don't like that one biit. In a hope to stop the violence and fighting Relena surrenders herself to the Alliance.
She eventualy becomes their Queen for a short while but then steps down when Treize Khushrenada makes his grand re-entrance and becomes the leader of the Alliance.
In the end, peace is finally achieved and Relena takes up he 'fathers' old job and name of Vice Foreign Minister Darlian. She also treats herself to hair cut. Her birthday is on the last episode(or close to it), and Heero leaves her a Teddy Bear and card, which she hapilly rips in half and tells him to deliver it in person next time.
In Endless Waltz V.F.M Darlian is kidnaped by Mariemaia.
Relena tries to use her peaceful talk on her but this 7 year old is one tuff cookie who is set on being victorious. Relena shows an act of Heroism(or stupidity, you decide) when she tells Dakim to shoot her because she is prepared to die. Mariemaia takes the bullet for her. And then Relena molests, um I mean holds in her arms the exhausted Heero who walks in on the scene.
The last images we receive of Relena are her giving a speech and Hero is watchin out of the shadow and then leaves.
