In Endless Waltz the year is A.C. 196 there is peace, which is shattered like glass by the dawn of a new era known as Mariemaia. She emerges with her Army and declares war against the United Earth Sphere Nation.
Mariemaia is the daughter of Treize Khushrenada who is no longer with us. Whether or not he was aware that he had a daughter during the Gundam Eps. is not known. Her mother was Leia Barton who passed away when Mariemaia was only two, poor kid.
Due to this Dekim Barton, Mariemaias grandfather, raised her. He is the one who filled her head with all the ideas of fulfilling her fathers wishes and being victoroius and waging wars, what a bastard! He uses Mariamia's blood relation to Trieze to his advantage and uses her as a puppet to achieve what he wants.
Being only 7 you belive what people tell you. Mariemaia was brainwashed by Dekim into believing wars are good, it was in the human consciousness to fight, she would rule Earth, people would bow before her, and all of this would be fulfilling her dead fathers wishes.
It is very plain to see that Mariemaia is not the bad guy, but merely a tool/puppet used by the evilest character Dekim, her own grandfather.
Lady Une again demonstrates her love for Treize even after his death by protecting Mariemaia when the headquarters begins to cumble after being shot by Wing Zero. She tells her, "Even though you may be mistaken, I cannot allow his excellency Treize's daughter to die."(How sweet!)
At the end of Endless Waltz, Mariemaia jumps in front of Relena taking a bullet shot by Dekim. Evil Dekim shrugs it off as Mariemaia lay on the ground bleeding to death and says 'We can always create a new Mariemaia"(I hate that guy, but ha! He gets his!)
In the end during the awesome song 'White Reflection' we see that Mariemaia has lived and is in a wheelchair. Lady Une is with her and they are together at Treize's grave that was also shown in Eps. 49 next to Zechs's.
