The Goldfield High Schoold
1907 - 1914
The corner-stone of Goldfield High School was laid during the "palmy" days, in the early part of 1907. Before Thanksgiving day of that year, the building, modern in every detail, was entirely completed, and ready for occupancy.

The first enrollment, 125 in number, was made up of students from many different high schools, and it was the problem of Goldfield's first school superintendent, Mr John G. Mckay, to weld these strangers together into one compact mass and to instill in them a glowing pride in their new school; and a sincere loyalty to its ideals. How well he succeeded can be testified by any Goldfield High School student of today.

From the first, Goldfield has been singularly fortunate in her choice of school directors. Without exception, they have been able and conscientious men, well fitted to cope with their peculiar problems. Mr. A. F. Lesly, who was for three years Clerk of the School Board, deserves special mention for his unselfish devotion to the welfare of Goldfield's young people.

The present Board of Trustees, elected April of this year, consists of Walter St. Pierre, President; E.P. Cooke, Clerk; Frank Favier, Member. These representative men of Goldfield have the hearty support of the tax-payers, and it's our earnest hope that they will succeed in every plan of theirs for the betterment of the Goldfield schools.

These words come from the fist page of the Goldfield High School 1914 Year Book. These are thoughts and dreams of people now gone. They were the "youth" that went to WWI.
