"LIVE / WORK "
An Exhibition of photography by Stephen Brookbank.
From the August, 2008 essay by Christopher Youngs:
" In Brookbank's eye, these images of the codependency between industry and housing are magnified, quietly dramatized, by the close juxtaposition of the home and the factory. These factories, oil depots and warehouses are still functioning, and the adjacent houses are still
occupied - forming an unexpected symbiotic relationship."

« A World in Black and White »
An Exhibition by 56 internationals printmakers.
As the wife of an engraver and knowing how difficult it is to be recognized as such, I learned that the craft of engraving was dying out and that the number of engravers who existed would decrease as the years went by.
To my great surprise, I discovered that this was simply not true. Today there are still many engravers and they are scattered everywhere. Perhaps they are hiding out in anticipation of better days, sometimes giving up in discouragement. Well, this exhibition is dedicated to them.
I wanted to pay tribute to all these true artists who, living in solitude and austerity, toil endlessly to make the world a nicer place..

"Elemental Structures"
An Exhibition of painting by Sue Ennis and Linelle Lemoine.
Sue Ennis’ paintings come out of the paradox that beauty can be found in the unusual and the ugly: within the pathology of the modern urban environment, where man-made structures impinge on or even obliterate the organic, there are still traces of beauty to be found.
Linelle Lemoine draws the viewer into her search for tranquility within an urban setting: she presents mixed media paintings on wood panel that reveal the transient and imperfectbeauty of nature.

"a body of work that had a significant influence on major photographers"
An Exhibition of photographs by Harold Edgerton.
Monsieur Harold Edgerton was a professor of electrical engineering at MIT and the inventor of the strobe light, which allowed him to literally freeze objects in the frame of the photograph. His inventive works captured the effects of motion, the human form and phenomena too fast for the human eye to perceive. With Edgerton's photography it was possible, for the first time, to see a remarkable range of objects in motion: the exact moment a bullet pierces through a playing card, the infinitesimal positions of a swinging gold club, the smooth motion of gymnasts tumbling or the rapid swings of a lacrosse player.
Monsieur Gus Kayafas will give a brief talk on the work of Monsieur Harold Edgerton.
&
"Südwest"
- familiar, or seemingly familiar, landscapes -
An Exhibition of a large, abstract photographs by Leipzig-based Frank Mädler.
The works are enigmatic and dream-like, with little evidence of human engagement or narrative potential. At 4' x 6', the photographs are large but decidedly minimal, with little visual information relating the images to the scenes depicted. Like much of Mädler's work, these ambiguous compositions call attention to the relationship between the passage of time and its visual representation.

A museum, gallery or science centre is often the first place many of us get to view and interact with displays that illuminate the wonders behind our everyday experience of the world. The Ontario Science Centre's Science Arcade is such a place. For almost four decades, it has engaged us hands-on in exhibits that inspire and compel us to see how science plays an integral part in our lives, etching memories of delight. It's fun. It's science. Can we come to see it as art? What new wonders might we see in that act?
