"PAINTING WITH LIGHT. SETTING IN MOTION THE FOURTH DIMENSION "
A Lcture by Mademoiselle MARCELLA GIULIA LORENZI and Monsieur MAURO FRANCAVIGLIA .
"Our cultural history shows the deep relation and the liaisons existing between Mathematics - a means to discover and describe “reality” – and Art, that aims to express or to represent “reality”. This emotionally engaging conference, at a simple level, aims at tracing this historical evolution and these parallelisms, underlining the strict relations existing between scientific thought and artistic expression, and trying to demonstrate how, starting from the observation and the comparison of works of art, it is possible to gradually arrive at recognizing the mathematical structures and canons that often lay underneath the same artworks. Finally, following this viewpoint, the photo-exhibition "Painting with light. Setting in Motion the Fourth Dimension" will be presented and illustrated. The interactive installation "Painting with light. Setting in Motion the Fourth Dimension" will be exhibited on the occasion of EURONIGHT 2008 during Scotia Bank Nuit Blanche.

Ancient ruins and archaeological excavations are common sights in Greece. However, in contrast to this, one is aware of a melancholic decay that exists among the narrowest alleyways and neglected facades: outmoded architectural styles and forgotten art forms mingle with urban graffiti and other modernities. Is it evidence of an emerging art form, symbolic of a marriage of ancient architecture and a contemporary aesthetic? Urban decay or urban revitalization?

An Exhibition of work by Members of the Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts.
The theme for this year's Nuit Blanche at Propeller is inspired by the title of the 1968 George Romero Horror Flick, Night of the Living Dead, where a group of people hide in a farm-house from bloodthirsty zombies. Nuit Blanche being an all night affair somewhat lends itself to the exploration of horror cinema, but by changing the word Dead to Red, the theme of the show becomes more original and expanded to explore the word or the colour Red in all its capacity..

Empty Orchestra explores karaoke (the word from which the exhibition title is translated) and its relationship to contemporary art and cultural diasporas. Karaoke originated in the ‘70s in Japan, and quickly entered many other cultural contexts. The exhibition presents works by Canadian and international artists who embrace, challenge, and query notions of karaoke as a medium of individual expression and collective identity.

An Exhibition of photography by Joseph Hartman.
Several of the images in the exhibition are documenting the expansion of Highway 69 between Port Severn and Sudbury. Hartman's use of the large format camera shows in magnificent colour and minuet detail the deep cut through the Canadian Shield, exposing rock from the last ice age.

"Blind Spot "
An Exhibition of video installation by Katja Høst.
It is impossible to cease being the subject of your own life… Katja Høst, in her solo exhibition Blind Spot, contends that even as individuals desire to see themselves as part of a crowd, self-image confirms one’s social isolation. The artist explores this concept through the video installation The Lonely Crowd (2004), an audio piece entitled The Detective (2006), and a series of images made from video stills that comprise Private Eye (2006-2008). Each piece is an analysis of anonymous characters and their perception of identity. .

An Exhibition of Digital chromogenic print mounted to dibond by IM Martinez.
The flow of time, like an audible echo, resembles the repetition of a primal sound that, without fading, is built up anew with each bounce on the walls; small variations and nuances are progressively absorbed into the loudening. Time echoes in every event, from the present to the past to the future and back.
