The Design Exchange is proud to announce the 14th Annual Canadian High School Design Competition. The aim of the competition is to promote the study and awareness of various design disciplines in schools across Canada. The competition is open to all high school students, at the junior (grades 10 and below) and senior (grades 11 and above) levels. Prizes will be awarded at both levels, in each of the four categories: Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Architectural / Interior Design, and Graphic Design.

"Armature"

*A structure's framework during its construction or as it decays is often ironically
similar. The rigid, linear character of these structures is tempered by the soft line
quality of charcoal and the organic, luminescent quality of wax*

An Exhibition of works by Shelley Mansel.

The structure in the landscape is at the centre of Mansel's new series "Armature".

This is Shelley Mansel's third solo exhibition with Ingram Gallery. In this new
collection, colour has been pared down to smoky charcoal blacks and clear-to-ochre
shades of wax.

"New Moon Rising"
An Exhibition of work by Janet Stanley.

I associate moons with women …. with fertility and creation stories
and also with 'in-between times' of flux. I think of tides and nightlight
.… of ritual and celebration.

I'm fascinated with things in the process of becoming or becoming undone..

These paintings explore notions of memory and inheritance as well
as intention and 'choosing again'. They reflect thinking about unity
and worlds mixing harmoniously - of new ways of being..

"NATURAL ORDER"
An Exhibition of an installation by Lauren Nurse.

Lauren Nurse’s installation revolves around the idea of collisions between nature and culture. Posing a series of questions concerning ideas of public space and how we interact with natural forms within these spaces. Her evocation of “wildness” shows ambiguous relationships built between humans and nature as seen in greenhouses, gardens, nature parks and similar artificially constructed spaces. Nature is shown to be a supple material for the reproduction of human desire.

Lauren Nurse, a Quebec transplant, now lives and works in Toronto. She recently graduated from York University MFA program with a concentration in print media and installation. She teaches Design at Sheridan College and Print Media at both Ontario College of Art and Design and York University. She is currently pursuing a degree in Horticulture from Guelph University.

Nurse has participated in exhibitions in Toronto, Montreal, New Mexico and Italy and has completed residency programs at Montreal’s Atelier de L’ile, Atelier Circulaire, the Vermont Studio Center, Newfoundland’s Pouch Cove Foundation and the Muskoka’s Tree Museum Sculpture Garden.

- 75 years of works from the collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec -

This project, the outcome of the first collaborative effort by the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Centre de design de l’Université du Québec à Montréal, has two purposes. The first is to provide an overview of the history of design in Québec, from the interior decorators of the 1930s and the entrenchment of design in the aftermath of World War II to the period of effervescence surrounding Expo '67 in Montréal. The second, to which more than half the exhibition is dedicated, is to examine the contemporary period in design, sequenced to enable exploration of design landscapes from the late 1970s to the present. To date, no other large-scale exhibition has delved into the different forms of Québec design and, by extension, its place in Québec society. The exhibition will present original objects and documents as well as photographs, and sound and film clips document ing the ephemeral work.
