Elegance is the attribute of being unusually effective and simple. Corruption allows decay, flaws, breakdown or ruin to become positive tools in the hands of the designers as they develop effective and intriguing design resolutions that also express elegance. Elegance is often used as a standard for tastefulness. Here, designers observe the values of both high and low commodities in our culture in their creation of new objects. Sampling, reorganizing, duplication and recycling create surprising new juxtapositions and add new dimensions to familiar forms and objects.

Technology, wit, skill and thought are brought to bear in the expressive objects that are the make up of Radiant Dark 2009- Elegant Corruptions. The independently created works on display; reflect their maker’s determination to realize their ideas while creating something of meaning and value to others. MADE intends Radiant Dark to show in a fresh venue each year that invites a sense of discovery. Radiant Dark 2009 – Elegant Corruptions, continues to explore options in modern Canadian design practice that will reach out to a wide audience.

"its aesthetic pizzazz"
An Exhibition of painting by Ric Evans.

Ric Evans is one of Canada’s preeminent abstract painters and has been exhibiting his work since the early 1970s. He is well collected in Canada and abroad.

Roald Naasgard writes in his recent book Abstract Painting in Canada: “Quirky as Evan’s compositional structures often are, it is nevertheless when he pits structure against destabilizing contraries that his more recent painting delivers its aesthetic pizzazz. Evans interfered with the original pattern by systematically altering one of its components, which had a domino effect on the other relationships, shifting the location and perhaps affecting the size and shape of the excised notch, sometimes in unexpected ways.”

"ENSO"
- Contemporary Japanese Calligraphy Exhibition -
An Exhibition of work by Noriko Maeda.

Enso is a symbolic shape in Japanese Calligraphy. It is simply a circle, however, every circle reflects the uniqueness of the creator. In Zen Buddhism, it is said that Enso exposes the absolute truth and symbolizes enlightenment and the universe. The painting of an Enso is an expression of the moment and reveals the spirit of the artist. The strength of the line, its splashes, rugged bumps and seamless flow are all filled with subtle, yet complex, nuances. As no two creators are alike, the same lines resonate differently to its viewers.

"Funkaesthetics"
An Exhibition of work by Pedro Bell, Leigh Bowery, Free Dance Lessons
(Paige Gratland & Day Milman), Fergus Greer, David Gwinnutt, Nick Knight,
Will Munro, Adrian Piper, P-Funk, Salvatore Salamone, Sun Ra,
and Stephen Willats.

Curated by: Monsieur Luis Jacob and Monsieur Pan Wendt.

** Funkaesthetics ** is premised on the idea that Funk constitutes a uniquely rich system of thought. With its interest in the distant past of ancient Egypt and the allegorical futures of science-fiction, in its freakish costumes and focus on the figure of "the alien", Funk manifests a vision of time and identity as mutable and open to transformation. The exhibition is an occasion to consider Funk in the context of its birth at the time of Black consciousness and the struggles for civil rights in the United States. Funkaesthetics is also presented as a uniquely fertile and thought-provoking opportunity for us to reconsider Funk – here and today – in its sinister aspects as well as in its more familiar utopian aspects.
