Doom

LEVEL OF THE WEEK
Monday 29th December
NO NEW RELEASES SINCE
Prower's Gate To Hell

Michael "Prower" Reid
(WWW Page)

Equally impressive sequel to the Level Of The Week for 19th September, Prower's Military Base.

Some impressive construction and lighting, plenty of running around finding switches and keys, and fairly hard...

1 - Crossing Acheron
Dr.Sleep
(WWW Page)

This WAD takes place in and around a beautifully built complex of marble buildings and courtyards, with brilliant scenery and nice shading. It's also damned hard!

2 - Dawn Of The Dead
Jan Van der Veken
(WWW Page)

An eight level replacement for Episode 1, looking very much like the original Doom levels in places, only even better! This was the "Doom Level Of The Week" TWICE (two different releases) for May 23rd and June 20th 1997.

3 - Debut
Tony Sideris
A whole new episode one with some really amazing levels. Looks great, plays great, plus a new sky texture and some other stuff to boot. Love it.
4 - T_Dunn01
Travers Dunne

Amazing set of six levels (for some reason scattered across two episodes) by Travers Dunne. Impressive construction and lighting, many of the levels are as good as the original Knee Deep In The Dead levels. Well worth a look...

5 - Cleimos
Rand and Steven Phares
(WWW Page)

Set in a holographic holiday camp in the Caribbean, this is a truly amazing whole-episode replacement WAD (9 new levels). It also features lots of new graphics (including force-fields, maps, signs and labels).

6 - Aliens Total Conversion
Justin Fisher

This is a classic, with changes to weapons, wall textures and monsters to produce the ultimate Aliens WAD. Follows the plot of the film faithfully through a full episode-full of missions...

Comes in several parts - click here, here, and here to download it all.

7 - Fava Beans
Sean Birkel

Impressive looking Knee Deep In The Dead style episode. Lots of nice looking settings and fairly challenging. Worth a look...

7 - Starwars WAD
Matt Falk

Based on blueprints of the Deathstar from a Starwars RPG, this series of levels is the best Starwars-based WAD I've seen so far. Shoot up the detention center, get crushed in the garbage compactor, run round shooting people for no obvious good reason... Excellent.
NOTE: This level is best played with one or more of the many Starwars add-on WADs available (which change various creatures into stormtroopers etc). Check out ftp.cdrom.com's "Themes directory"

9 - #1 Kill Extra
Angelo Jefferson

Impressive looking alien-tech style base level. Some eye-dropping scenery, atmospheric lighting, and damned hard to boot. Every step you take drops you deeper into paranoia as whole new areas suddenly open up, pouring forth whole hordes of monsters. Well worth a look...
Level Of The Week - Friday 3rd October 1997...

10 - A_CASTLE (Version II)
Dwight Victor

This wad consists of a number of small keeps which you have to clear out one by one to lower the drawbridges that interconnect them. Each keep is on its own little island, surrounded by a moat of lava. Although many of the keeps look similar, each is different enough to make it an interesting level.
