On March
15th 2008, I was off again to Iloilo after a couple of months to attend the
christening of my Hijada, Mac and Donnah's first baby. It was quite a
while since I last stepped down the port of Iloilo. Nothing much has
changed as far as I can remember. The weather was still as hot as during
my college years. Taxi drivers inside the port were still as "wise" as
before. So I took a cab outside the port since I only had a limited budget
to spend during my stay there.
On my way to
Ocean City, where the actual party was held, a lot of newly built structures
struck my eyes. Iloilo had indeed grown "bigger". The new provincial
capitol, newly painted old establishments, new party places to go to and, not to
mention, the newly built sky way, the first in western visayas, amazed me.
And so I entered
the room where the party was held. I was surprised when everybody was
looking at me. It was only then when I realized that I was already late
for the party and everybody was already starting to pack there things up.
At last, somebody called me from a nearby table. It was Mac, the proud
daddy and a good friend of mine. He then escorted me to where the rest of
my former classmates were sitting. It was some sort of a reunion that we
met again after a couple of years. Of course, we told each other about the
latest updates and news from some of our batchmates while catching up for my
lunch.
After the party,
we went to SM City to have a cup of coffee. It was quite fun as we tried
to reminisce what we usually do during our breaktime way back in college -
stolling around the mall, watching the last full show of our favorite movies,
getting sober and listening to different bands at the parking lot (during
Digagyang food festival) and a lot more.
After the coffee
break me and some of my friends bid bye-bye to each other hoping that someday we
will meet again and update each other. Then I went with Ariane and Betsy
and spent the rest of the day with them.
It's good to know
that my former Home, where I actually spent five years during my college days,
has been showing some progress and development these days. Its really
surprising to see something new from Iloilo every time I go there for business
or for pleasure. But one thing has not changed, which I will never wish to
happen, that is the friendship with my former kabarkadas that kept us
bonded with each other after many years. Iloilo City and my friends there
will always be in my heart. |
