September 6, 2007 is such a memorable day for
me. It was the first time that my family, friends, relatives and even my
mentors gathered together in the biggest celebration of my life.
The party was
attended by over 100 guests. Aside from my family, present in the said occasion
were my classmates in medschool who also turned doctors last august, Chad, King,
April and Bien. MacArtur and Betsy also graced my party all the way from
Iloilo. And of course, my party wouldn't be complete without my girlfriend,
Ruby, who came from her review classes just to be with me and my family.
My relatives both from my mother and father side were also present. Lola Ma'am
and Lola Rita headed the Rito Clan together with Tita Malot, Tita Otic and Tito
Mario, and Tita Erna. On the other hand, Tito Daku, Tita Gamay and cousins
Tantan, Ama and Jake represented the Espeleta Clan. Also, relatives from Ma-ao,
Pta. Taytay, Kabankalan and Bacolod came to celbrate us.
My teachers in elemtary school and highschool also took time from their classes
and joined me in my party. Former principal, now turned councilor, Hon.
Bernadette Somcio together with Mrs. Balboa and Mrs. Vidal were present in the
said event. Also visible were Mrs. Cortes, Mrs. Bonafe and Mrs. Jayobo.
The party started with a thanksgiving mass celebrated by my uncle, Fr. Rito, who
was the brainchild of this event. In his homily, he said that the only time that
he knew that I have already passed the boards was the time when he was
celebrating a mass at Carmelites Chapel (the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is
every July 16th, which happens to be my birthday). He admitted that he was
surprised when he heard the good news. Since then he promised to himself that he
will throw a big thanksgiving party for me.
After the mass, my uncle gave me the floor and ask me to say something. In my
brief speech, I explained to them the reason why the party was entitled
"Blessings". I told them that everything that happened to me was a "Blessing"
and not just pure "luck". I also took the chance to thank all the people who
have helped me in their own way, to reach my dreams. My family, of course, for
their sacrifices and unselfish support; my friends for keeping me high when I
feel depressed and down; and my teachers for their motivation when I was then a
student.
After the mass, everybody went to the dining hall for lunch. Thanks to Tita
Malot for taking care of the food. It was one of the best lunch of my life!
"Blessings" was the most memorable celebration in my entire existence. Afterall,
I am not only blessed to survive in medical school, or to pass the boards, but I
am blessed to have these wonderful people beside me, helping me reach my dreams. |
