Do you wanna know why Baguio City is such a
memorable place not only for me, but also for my friends Chad, King and Peewee?
It all started during our stay at Tating's
Dormitory at Fairview, Quezon City. We were strolling around the the
garden when a lady from Baguio told us that if we happen to see a turtle
swimming inside the pond, which is by the way too impossible to happen, we will
definitely pass the boards.
Few days later we became good friends. It was
Vicky, a medical student from St. Louie's University in Baguio.
Together with her friends Kath, Ludy and Jovy, we usually shared the dining area
every night studying for the boards. We even shared foods, notes and
review materials. We also joked around and asked her if she and her
friends can bring us to Baguio before we go back to Bacolod - which she took
seriously. After the exams, she left a note on our door, giving us
instructions on how to get to their place.
A day before the results went out, me and my
friends decided to go to Baguio. We left Manila at 2AM via Dagupan Bus.
We traveled for 6 hours amidst a very heavy rain. Luckily, we arrived in
their place safe and sound.
Vicky and Kath fetched us up at a fast food
chain where we had our quick breakfast. From there, they toured us around
the city. Our first destination was at The Mansion - the president's rest
house in Baguio. Then, they brought us at Mines View park, where we had
the chance to see the beautiful landscape the the City of Pines. Our next
stop was at Camp John Hay where we fetched Ludy and went to the Philippine
Military Academy and posed for the pictorials. The place was getting
colder and colder, and the fog was getting heavier that we can hardly see each
other.
The ladies of
Baguio then brought us to SM City for lunch. There was no airconditioning
system inside the said "open" mall, but the blowing wind is far much colder than
our aircon in Manila. Even my friend King bought a jacket to keep him warm
during the day. After lunch, we took some coffee and had the chance to
know each other better.
After the
coffee break, the girls brought us to the Grotto of the Our Lady of Lourds where
we had to climb almost 250 steps to get to the top. We lit a candle and
prayed for the success of our boards. After which, we went to their
cathedral and attended a mass.
We had our
dinner at Vicky's house where we shared a special evening with her dad and mom
who also happened to be celebrating her birthday. After the sumptuous
dinner, we went to Tangerine Bar and met some of their friends.
At the bar,
something great happened which made our visit in Baguio an unforgettable
experience. It is where we finally got the results of the board exams.
At first, we were pretty nervous that we can hardly finish a bottle of beer when
my friend in Manila texted that the results have already been released.
Chad was even shaking and thought that he will not be able to pass the said
exam. But then, when Peewee called up my friend in Manila and confirmed
that we all passed, the formerly not so quiet bar became a party place for
celebration!
After the
celebration, we left to Manila with a big smile on our face. We were
joyful not only because of the results of the exams, but also because of the
chance that was given to us to meet such wonderful people in the person of
Vicky, Ludy, Kath and Jovy whom we built our friendship with even in just a
short span of time.
