The Boracay Summer

May 12, 2007

Last week, I, together with father-and-son Bayen and Rayen , siblings Cornelia and Nino , best friends Radcibel and Marc, sweethearts Tintin and Mark, and first timer Melvin went to the summer destination of the Philippines, Boracay.  It was a one great time for us to wind up after a year of "toxicity" as post graduate interns at the Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. We spent a 4-day vacation with the help of the funds that we earned during last years Christmas carols.

The first day was a tough one for us.  We weren't able to catch the the ferry boat so we didn't have a choice but to take the long way- a two-hour trip aboard "RO-RO" to Iloilo.  At Iloilo, we took a brief lunch and rode a van (another boring 5-hour trip) going to Caticlan where we again took a ferry boat going to Boracay.  It was then such a tiring day for us.

On day 2, we spent the whole day getting ourselves tanned at the beach.  Marc and I bought a lotion good enough to keep us away from sun burn.  At lunch time, Melvin, Mark and I turned into chefs as we cooked our food for the group since our budget is limited and we can't afford to dine in expensive restaurants.  We made the best "sinigang" and pork barbeque perfect enough to satisfy our appetite.  In the afternoon, we would stroll around the shore to watch the sunset.

On day 3, the group had an Island Hopping.  We visited the caves at Crystal Cove and snorkeled at the beach of Crocodile Island.  It was my third time to do those stuff, but for the first timers, it was a wonderful experience.  At around 4PM, Cornelia, Marc, Nino, Radcibel and I rode a banana boat and toured around the island of Boracay.  It was a thrilling experience for us but I was a little bit disappointed cause it only lasted for more than 5 minutes.

Then, of course, our vacation wouldn't be complete without a "night life".  We partied at Club Parau for two nights where we also met our former classmates Clarrisa, Peewee and King, who where also spending their summer vacation with their fellow interns from Riverside Medical Center (including some classmates Ella, Joyce and Celna).  We danced and grooved in the music of Akon, Beyonce and other RnB singers.  It was indeed a fun party for us.

Our escapade at Boracay will be one of my most memorable summer vacations ever.  I will definitely miss the white sands and crystal clear water, but most of all, I will never forget the camaraderie and fun that I had with my fellow PGI's.
