At last, after two months of toxicity, I am now back, now more confident and
satisfied as far as my rotation as a post graduate intern (PGI) is concerned.
I am done rotating in the department of Internal Medicine - the department that
doesn't only require your skills in doing intubations, CPR and all that
stuff, but will really make your mind work especially in times were proper
judgment as to the management of the patient is concerned. For the past
two months (actually, 4 months to be exact, since we also rotated as floaters for
2 months during our community medicine rotation), I was able to meet and learn
from different kinds of patients that I admitted, and junior and senior
consultants that I given the privilege to work with. At first, it was
really a tough job for me since Internal Medicine is one of the difficult
subjects in med school. But then, going rounds with my consultants
everyday, answering their revalidas and reviewing my notes about my
patients' case made my learning experience a very memorable one.
As what I have said, now I am more confident and satisfied. Confident,
because I was able to pass our nerve-breaking, heart-pounding oral exams
together with my other co-PGI's at Riverside Hospital. This would simply
show that our (lasallian) batch could never be left behind other interns from
other medical schools just like what our detractors were saying before.
Satisfied, because I have learned a lot of things as a medical intern through
our weekly conferences that I, together with my partner-intern TinTin, have
conducted. In fact, I was the first and only intern who was able to
present two different and tough cases at the same time and comparing these cases
during the case discussion which was commended by our consultants.
Currently, I am rotating as a surgical intern for the next two months.
Surgery is not as toxic as Internal Medicine so I've got more time to read my
Schwartz. And since surgery is my favorite department, let's see what kind
of learning experience I will be able to get during my rotation.
