Tip of the Week 40

'Leave' used in other expressions:

'Fàg aig' is used to mean 'leave to' in the sense of of 'leave as an inheritance' or 'leave something up to' e.g.

Dh'fhàg athair a' chroit aigesan.
His father left the croft to him.

Feumaidh sinn fhàgail aigesan.
We must leave it up to him.

leig leis = leave him alone / let him be

Chuir sinn cùl ris a' bhaile bòidheach sin.
We left that beautiful town.

Chaidh Calum agus mise fhàgail leinn fhéin.
Calum and I were left by ourselves / on our own

Bha sinn air an doras fhàgail fosgailte
We had left the door open!

Another tip of the week soon (hopefully!)
