Pseudophryne major - Great Brown Broodfrog

Identification:
Length 35 mm. Back is grey with broad dark brown central area with blackish
markings, longitudinally arranged low warts and skin folds; short yellowish
stripe on rump; sides greyish; upper arm with pale spot at base; underside
marbled black and white; pointed snout, with the nostrils on the upper surface.
Fingers and toes unwebbed.
Habitat and Range: Found in damp or boggy areas, in forest and heathland. Often found sheltering under debris, rocks, leaf litter and logs. Coastal eastern Qld and northern NSW.
Mating Call:
Short grating, upwardly inflecting "ark". 73 K![]()
Spawn:
Breeds from February to August. Relatively large eggs laid on land under
leaf litter, logs or stones; guarded by male until covered by rising floodwater.
Tadpoles: Dark brown with mottled tail fins. Approximate tadpole life is from three to seven months.
