Man has always wondered if they were alone in the universe. Sending probes into space with messages of Greetigns, and invitations to come to the earth. Unfortunatly, something responded....

Now earth is under seige, alien ships are everywhere. It's time to take them out!

Chaos Control is a beautifully detailed, shoot 'em up, with an unusual graphics system. For most of the levels you have no say in where you go, it's like you're flying on rails. However, it's all done with very crisp FMV. When the alien craft are destroyed, they dont go away, the computer merely masks an explosion over the area of video where the target is. Strange, but not too distracting from gameplay. However, the most distracting video is the 2-D anime style characters (shown right) in the cut-sequences. Saddly, it doesnt give it the same cyberpunk look as animes like Ghost in the Shell, it makes it looked rushed instead.

The sound is pretty good. That for the video is REALLY sweet, things wisk by in full stereo. The sounds of your weapons though sound more 80's arcade fare, not really bad, but doesnt seem to mix well with the game. The voice-acting is another matter, its as flat and lifeless as the anime characters make it out to be. I've heard better acting in z-grade monster movies. I guess you could chalk that up to the "rushed" feeling I described earlier.

As to control, well, there it's debatable. If you play with the 3-button bad it's mediocre at best, the speed & accuracy needed to get to multiple targets just isn't there. The thumbstick is useless, the light gun is handy, but cannot be calibrated still you can use it to quickly guide the on-screen cursor. Most ideal is the mouse, since it's basicly is a point & click game.

Overall, it's an all-too-brief game on rails. With the exception of a small part in the final level, the game's path is unchangeable. The enemies are always in the same place. Plus with only the single weapon for the full game, it just doesn't get any different. No matter how many times you play. A good game to play occasionally, but not for the long haul.
