Modification Madness!
Confused lately by all of the different modifications on gbalight.com? Then you're in the right place :)
I've written this guide to hopefully clear up some of the confusion.
Level scale: 1=easy 2=moderate 3=difficult
- Lv.1 Original lightshield modification: This was the first modification posted on gbalight.com. The basic procedure involves simply replacing the original LS bulb with a white LED. Note: this modification is for a version 1 light shield. If you have a version 3 shield please keep reading...
- Lv.1 Version 3 lightshield voltage "hack": Pelican changed the circuitry in the old light shield; as a result of this change, the voltage that the current shield puts out is not enough to properly light the LED. This "hack" allows you to bypass the voltage/current limit on a version 3 light shield.
- Lv.3 Cyclops mod : I based the "Cyclops" modification on the wormlight plus. The basic procedure involves replacing the LED in a wormlight plus with a "world's brightest" LED, adding a switch and adding a BIOS battery holder. This modification offers the *best* screen coverage, but is also the most complex to perform.
- Lv.2 Viper mod: The "Viper" modification uses the "world's brightest" LED that the cyclops uses, but instead of modifying a wormlight, a common clothes hanger is used to create a support structure for the light. This mod was based on the WB LED keychains that I'm currently selling on the site.
Here is a 5-in-1 comparison picture showing all 4 modifications in action plus the original Pelican light shield in the center.
