FIRST GENERATION

 

1.  Johann Adam BOLCH died in Apr 1794 in Lincoln County, NC (will probated there).  He was born in Germany.  He was buried in Bunker Hill area, near Claremont, NC.

 

      Johan Adam Bolch and his wife Anna Christina (last name unknown) landed in Philadephia on 24 September 1753 on the ship Neptune (John Mason, Master)

from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. They had two children with them, Jacob who was born in Germany prior to the voyage and Sebastian who was born "on the

high seas." They settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Sometime prior to 1770 the family migrated to Lincoln County, North Carolina. The last name has been

spelled in various ways through the generations including Balch, Balich, Boalich,  Bohlich, Bohlig, Bolch, Boleck, Boley, Bolich, Bolick, Boliek, Bolig, Boligh,  Bolih, Bolish, Bollich, Bollick, Bollig, Bolligh, Bolock, Bolsch.

 

      Johan Adam was a shoemaker by trade. According to family stories, he had considerable property in Germany. Germany had strict limits on the amount of

property immigrants were allowed to take with them when they left the country.  Johan Adam converted the greater part of his property into gold which he then

melted into thin plates. He made new shoes for the family, with an extra pair for each. He placed the sheets of gold between the soles of the shoes and the family  carried the gold to America.

 

      Andreas Balch arrived in Philadelphia on the same ship as Johan Adam Bolch. The next year a Johan Georg Bohlich arrived in Philadelphia on December 13, 1754 also on the Neptune (Walliam Malane, Master) from Hamburg, Hanover and Saxony. It has been theorized that these three men, Johan Adam Bolch, Andreas Balch and Johan Georg Bohlich were brothers.

 

      He was married to Anna Christina ? in Germany.  Anna Christina ? was born in Germany.  Johann Adam BOLCH and Anna Christina ? had the following children:

5.  Jacob BOLCH was born in 1751 in Germany.6  He died in Nov 1826.7  Will dated 2/5/1823 was probated 1826  Served in the American Revolutionary War, by furnishing food for the Patriots. Accounts of United States with North Carolina, Vol. A, Page 178. DAR Nat'l No. 597,689. List in Heads of Families, 1st Census of U.S., 1790, State of North Carolina.

 

      He was married to Maria Salome GRIMES on 21 Mar 1775 in Rowan County, NC (colony).8  Jacob BOLCH and Maria Salome GRIMES had the following children:

6.  Sebastian "Boston" BOLCH9 was born in 1753 in Atlantic Ocean, onboard ship Neptune.  He died in 1822.3  He was buried in Bunker Hill area, near Claremont, NC.  Cemetery is no longer there.

 

      He was married to Hanna (Maria) Margaret HEFFNER on 18 Feb 1776 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  Married at St. Paul's Church in The Dutch Meeting House.3  Hanna (Maria) Margaret HEFFNER3 was born in Oct 1759.10  She was christened on 12 Oct 1759 in Evangelical Reformed Ch., Fredrick, MD.11  She died between 1830 and 1840.10  Sebastian "Boston" BOLCH and Hanna (Maria) Margaret HEFFNER had the following children:

7.  Johan Adam BOLCH was born in 1755 in Pennsylvania.12  He was christened on 6 Feb 1755 in Jacksonwald, Pennsylvania.3  Johannes Adam Bolch was baptized at Schwarzwald (a small community southeast of Reading in Exeter township, known in 1939 as Jacksonwald. Based on the records of The Trinity Lutheran Church of Reading, PA.  He died about 1789 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  Adam has service records during the period of the American Revolution.

8.  Johan Casper BOLCH (BOLICK)13 was born on 26 Dec 1756 in Pennsylvania.3  He was christened on 16 Feb 1757 in Jacksonwald, Pennsylvania.3  According to church records of The Trinity Lutheran Church of Reading, PA, he was baptized when he was seven wks old at Schwarzwald (a small community southeast of Reading in Exeter township, known in 1939 as Jacksonwald.  He died on 27 Jul 1834 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.3  He served active duty in the American Revolutionary War, and received a pension for his service. His War Pension File No. is W-18566.

 

      He was married to Mary Magdelena DEAL on 28 Dec 1779.3  Mary Magdelena DEAL3 was born on 15 Aug 1756 in Northampton, Pennsylvania.3  She died on 25 Nov 1839 in Catawba County, North Carolina.3  Johan Casper BOLCH (BOLICK) and Mary Magdelena DEAL had the following children:

   Simeon and wife Christina had 11 children, the ninth one being Moses, who married Salome Sarah (Sally) Dietz.  Moses and Sally had a son named Gilbert, born in NC, who traveled to Cocke County, TN, and eventually married Amanda (Zennie) Balch (Bolch), daughter of Joseph Bolch/Balch and Polly Bollinger.

   Joseph and Polly, and Gilbert and Amanda are all buried at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cocke County, TN.  Christina BOLCH and Simeon BARGER had the following children:

       109  iii.  Joseph BOLCH was born about 1831 in Catawba County, North Carolina.17  NC census for 1850 gives his trade as a blacksmith.

She was married to Phillip Jacob HEFFNER on 14 Feb 1822.    Lacy Weston, FKMV62A *P, a descendant of Phillip J. Heffner, reports that he was first married to Elizabeth Keller.  This was to have been a first marriage, so it would have been sometime before 1822.  Our record shows another Elizabeth Keller, born in 1878, who was married to Lee Edgar Balch.  This would not have been the same Elizabeth Keller, but perhaps a descendant of the same Keller family.

  We leave this puzzle to be unraveled by Cynthia, Doug, Lacy, and the rest of the group who descend from these families.  Phillip Jacob HEFFNER was born on 15 Jan 1768.  He died on 11 Feb 1858.  Elizabeth BOLCH and Phillip Jacob HEFFNER had the following children:

Cem., Catawba Co., NC.  During the American Civil War he was a member of Lanes Brigade 28th NC Regiment (See Clark N.C. Regiment, Vol. 5), serving nearly 4 yrs. He was a corporal and was captured near the end of the war. He was imprisoned in PA. Was wagon maker/farmer.

He was married to Rosanna DEAL on 17 Apr 1835 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  Andrew and his brother, Joseph, were married on the same day. They served as witnesses for each other.3  Rosanna DEAL was born about 1813.27  Andrew BOLCH and Rosanna DEAL had the following children:
