The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [WCW Nitro]
This game is putrid

I'm a WWF fan because of this game

This game truly captured WCW at the end of its glory days: a roster full of aging legends and future stars and a truly horrible product. With over 60 wrestlers, many hidden, tag team, royal rumble, tournament, hardcore matches, and different arenas to choose from, there is definitely alot in this game that could suck, and oh how it sucks.

This game came in a great box that had pictures of cool wrestlers on the cover in a hologram that would change with the lighting. When I saw the box I thought, "this is gonna be great." When I first watched this game and saw the cool intro which showed tons of real wrestling clips I thought, "this is gonna be great." It most definitely is not great. If you actually play the game long enough to unlock a hidden wrestler, you'll find that he does not have his own end moves, but instead borrows his entire move list from another character. This means that there are twelve different sets of moves in the game, and just about every character is a recycled form of the main dozen. Even the hidden wrestlers are a dissapointment. Who wants to see Roddy Piper doing the Outsider's Edge? The only TRULY good thing about this game is that it allows me to be my favorite tag team ever, the Hart Foundation. I don't actually play this game anymore, but for the four minutes that I did play, I would: select the Hart Foundation, select some famous opponents, then I pretend that I'm playing a fun game.

WCW Nitro
Graphics: 3
Surprisingly, the graphics suck. The characters are identifiable, but the movement of the characters and the look of the crowd are absolutely pathetic. I haven't run across too many PC games that just bit in the graphics department but this is one of them. The graphics are barely a step up from SNES. The coolest thing is that the character's heads follow each other, so it actually looks like the two are focusing on each other. Oh, and each wrestler's rants at the selection screen are really really cool.
Playability: 1
Ok, who would ever make a wrestling game without grappling? This game is sort of SmackDownesque in what determines who pulls of a move is the timing in when the buttons are hit. This game suffers from the problem that most wrestling games do, your opponent pops up from your finishing move as fast as they would if they were just tripped or something. I can't help thinking, "he's impervious to pain!" whenever I give a chokeslam to Chris Jericho and he gets up before I can even attempt a pin. Oh, and the announcers are absolutely terrible too. The play by play must be heard to understand how annoying it is.
Fun Factor: 1
This game is on par with the old 8 bit wrestling games for Nintendo. If it wasn't for the rare appearance of the Hart Foundation, I would rate this game a -40. Despite the stellar roster, this game has no redeeming qualities. It is not fun, has no replayability, and should have never been made. Thankfully WCW collapsed not long after and we didn't have to suffer through another one of these crapfests.
