The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [Tecmo Super Bowl]
Hut Hut Hut

So long 1000 yard seasons

The excitement of a sequel to TSB for the NES was at a fever pitch in early 1993 as I waited for the SNES version to hit the shelves. The game is virtually the same as TSB for NES, but after playing the NES version for 2 years this was a fresh change of pace. The graphics are slighlty different, there are a few slightly different plays, and the rosters are different, but other then these changes the game is virtually the same.

Oh wait, I forgot one thing, they tried to keep the big plays in this game down to a reasonable level. I hate to say it, but big plays are what TSB is all about. In this version, it is almost impossible to run the football, as the programmers noticed that a seasoned veteran could run for 2500 yards with Kevin Mack and wanted to keep the stats reasonable. The new changes made it nearly impossible to run the football, thus eliminating roughly half the fun.

Tecmo Super Bowl
Graphics: 5.5
Whoa! Rain and snow options! How sweet is that? Ok, not very. The graphics are nearly the same as the 8-bit.
Playability: 9
Still the same old Tecmo style, making it excessively easy to play yet difficult to master! Or something.
Fun Factor: 7
This game is vastly inferior to 8-bit version, and in fact, I nearly place it on the level of the Madden series. If it wasn't for the new rosters, this game wouldn't have even been worth playing in 1993, and it definitely is not worth playing over the NES version today.
