This is a game ported from a PC game that was released late sometime after the next generation consoles had already taken over. Because of this the game received far less recognition than it most undoubtedly deserved. The concept is simple. Create a party of characters that will embark on a quest to clean up a once great town. Most of the game will be played in 1st person perspective but battles and the outdoors area are in 3rd person. Basically you will be going to the city council to get missions and you can beat those to get more missions. You basically do this until there arent any missions left; then youre ready to go beat the game. Meanwhile youll be finding items, training your characters and learning new spells.
| | Pool of Radiance | Graphics: 3 They arent terrible for NES standards but the colors are really bland. It might help with the mood of the game but it can be kind of an eye sore to play. Its kind of like looking at one of those shirts that hurts your eyes. Remember when those were popular. |
Playability: 5
I usually like to use this section to complain about playability problems and this game has a few. The menus are pretty complicated and at times, redundant. It isnt bad once you get used to it but youll find yourself saying What the F___! the first few times you play it. Another problem is the battles are slow and take waaay too long. If you have a choice, play this game on your computer with frame-skip. The game is like 10 times better that way. font> |
Fun Factor: 7.5 It sounds boring but the storyline is pretty cool. The missions have you going into all kinds of different areas where youll be finding lots of different monsters and people who will join your team temporarily to help you carry out a task. I played through the game recently and it was just as much fun as the first time. The game is different every time you play it because you can make different decisions, use different characters and youll find different items. Its also huge. I think I spent over 100 hours on it the first time I beat it. I personally think this is the best RPG for the NES. |
