The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [Phantom Fighter]
Phaaaantastic

Phantom Phighter. I mean, Fantom Fighter. I mean, Phantom Fighter.

Phantom Fighter is one of those NES games that has such a goofy plot that it isnt worth even paying attention to. Apparently you are some guy named Kenchi and you are a phantom fighter.

You travel from town to town saving the people from hopping vampires, I kid you not. I did some research and found that the Chinese have a superstition of these super-natural hopping vampires called Kyonshi.

Ridiculous plot aside, this game is basically a side scrolling fighting/rpg where you kill these creatures and gain items and powers from them and the townspeople you save.

Phantom Fighter
Graphics: 5
Not too shabby for an NES game. I dont know why but sometimes I think the graphics look pretty good. The color scheme seems to fit the atmosphere of this game perfectly. Im not going to deny the fact that the things you fight look retarded, but they are hopping vampireshow else should they look?
Playability: 6
The game-play is all about timing. Once you figure out the tendencies of these vampires, fighting shouldnt be too difficult. I prefer the stick and move strategy. Hey, if its good enough for Little Mac in Punch Out, its good enough for me. Anyway, fighting is a bit too simple, otherwise it would have earned a higher rating.
Fun Factor: 4
The first time I played this game, I would have predicted the fun factor to be a 0. The game simply looked idiotic. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find this game addictive and pretty fun. Im not saying I would ever rant and rave about this game, but if you ever stumble across it, give it a chance. The only problem is that when you beat it, you will probably never play it again, but Id say its good for a few hours of action packed gaming fun.
