The music at the title screen is classic
Awh man this game brings back memories. One that it doesn't bring back is whether or not this was the game that Vince Vaughan and company were playing in the movie Swingers. Anyway, like all the NHL games this game stinks once you find out the trick to scoring. I've seriously beat the computer 10 to nothing, Anaheim vs. the East (or West, whichever one is better) All-Stars, without using a goalie. Despite the imbeciles in the nets, which make one player mode virtually worthless, this is still a classic two-player game
Often times my opponents have been frusterated at my scoring techniques as well though. Unfortunately, once you develop cheap scoring well enough, you can use it to dominate two player games as well. Even though I've often been called unethical for using my trademark scoring methods, it is my opinion that anything and everything should be legal in video games. Well, at least video games titled 'NHL '94'.
| | NHL '94 | Graphics: 4 This game is virtually the same as EA Hockey, so I'll just lift Slig's description for the graphics. "Since this game is older than the other NHL games the graphics arent as good as they could or should be. Other than the simplicity of the graphics, however, the textures are fairly smooth and there isnt any choppiness," -Slig |
Playability: 7
Once again, Slig - "The game couldnt be any more simple to play. Only two buttons are used on the Genesis controller, one switches players and passes and the other one checks and shoots. This allows new players to get into the game with nearly no training." One thing I will add is that the one timers, although make the game much more fun, often times are hard to execute (not for me of course, but many of my frusterated opponents, namely Matt Howard, seem to complain alot about where the player passes the puck. If I think back real real real hard I can almost remember being frusterated with passing) therefore I give this game a 7 for playability. |
Fun Factor: 6.5 Some more Slig - "I dont know how to explain it but this game is really freakin fun to play. One player mode is pretty worthless unless you like destroying the crappy CPU AI 14-3 every game. Two player mode is fantastic though." |
