Why Aren't Real Go-Karts This Fun?
Not much to describe here. Mario and all of his friends have gotten together and have decided to race go-carts. This is a sequel to the Super Nintendo game, Mario Kart.
The game is playable with 1-4 players and it includes 16 tracks, a variety of items and weapons to use during races, and 4 battle mode arenas. Playable characters include Mario, Luigi, Toad, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario, Peach, and Yoshi. Uhhhhh, and you can race 50cc, 100cc, or 150cc.
| | MarioKart | Graphics: 8 The graphics are far advanced from those of its predecessor. Full colorful 3D environments are exceptionally sharp for a 1st generation N64 title. I play this game still today and have little to gripe about graphically. Of course it looks slightly dated when compared to next generation consoles like PS2 and Xbox, but the game still looks good enough so that you wont have to squint to see whats going on.

Playability: 8
The controls are practically flawless. Anybody can jump in and start playing this game without any problems, yet it takes months to master. One addition to this game I rather dislike is what I like to call ketchup mode. No matter how fast you are going, the 2nd and 3rd place computer opponents will stay close behind you in order to make the race interesting. Sure it makes the races more competitive, but if Im having a good race I would like to blow people out by half a lap. It gets annoying after a while. |
Fun Factor: 9 This game is fun to play, but it is the multi-player aspect that lifts this game beyond most others. I would make no hesitation in saying this is one of the best multi-player games of all-time. With 2 players I like to play the cup mode against the computer. Depending on who youre playing with, you can either sabotage each other in the hopes for taking all the glory yourself, or you can work as a team and take out the computer opponents in the hope of going 1,2 each race. With 3 or 4 people I like playing battle mode. Even if you are eliminated, you turn into a driving bomb and you can sabotage the guy that took you out or the kid you dont like. This game is a must have for party situations. Other than Goldeneye 007, I would say this has the highest person/player ratio, meaning if you take 10 random kids, probably 9 of them have played this game before, and there you have it, a party is born. |
