The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [Madden 2000]
Barry Sanders is one of those guys where you can stop him, stop him, stop him, stop him, and then boom. All of a sudden 60 yards.

They still can't stop the sweep.

The John Madden series. Possibly the most frusterating series on the face of the planet. I hate these games. They are fun for about 20 minutes, until you remember that the computer can't stop the sweep outside. Honestly, this series has been out for a decade and they still haven't figured out a way to stop the sweep on any level below the 'All-Madden' level? Come on! EA, you should be ashamed! The game is so promising too. Franchise mode, free agency, create a player... so much potential, but there are too many annoying quirks for my taste.

For example, passing seems to be absolutely impossible on the all-Madden level. Granted, I didn't play long at this level because the game is no fun, but in the 4+ games I tried on this level it seemed every time I dropped back to pass it was picked off. So I went to the level of difficulty below it. Now at least I could complete alot of passes and move the ball, however, one out of every 5 passes still landed in the hands of a defender. So I moved the difficulty down another level. Now I could run the ball on a sweep for 13 yards any play I wanted to, and I could move the ball passing at will... yet the interceptions are still frusteratingly frequent. One game I decided I was going to pass every play. My statline for the first half was like, 14-17 for 173 yards, 2 tds, and 3 picks. My point? Interceptions are vastly disproportionate to the level of difficulty. Defending, completing passes, running... they all become easy while interceptions just run rampant. Kailee Wong picked off 8 passes for me one season. That was on 'All-Pro'. Thats ridiculous. I completed over 70% of my passes in the season with Jeff George, and threw for about 35 tds, yet still couldn't avoid throwing 25 interceptions. 25! Thats like, Vinny Testeverde in his worst year bad (well, maybe not. I think Vinny hucked 35 one year in the most atrocious sports stat ever I believe, but you get the point). Add this to the fact that the most annyoing announcer ever is on the cover of the game... I can't believe that there aren't any decent-non-madden style football games out there today. Its a travesty. Madden came out and forever ruined video game football. Its devestating. Beyond words. Tragic. Horriffic. I'm mortified.

Madden 2000
Graphics: 10
Since I gave other games with worse graphics high ratings, I'll give this one a 10. Colorful players are fantastic and large, although some of the graphics are laughable compared to recent games, such as the bench players who seriously look worse than some Sega games.
Playability: 1
The game is too hard, until you figure out how to work the system, and then you can't lose. You go from 0-2 when you begin playing, to winning every game from that point on easily. Its just no fun. That and the interception thing just make this game another worthless sports game. The only way sports games like this are fun is if you can pretend that you are the quaterback and escape into a fantasy. Its sad that you have to escape into a fantasy WHILE playing the video game. Shouldn't the video game BE the fantasy? You have to do the pretending in this game to make it any fun.
Fun Factor: 3
Just scrap this crap and go play online tecmo super bowl. Its a million times more fun.
