The following are a few photos my friend Christy took during the course of the year. To find out more about her, see her link on my "Pics" page.

Christy McKagen

  1. Somewhere around the beginning of the year, late January, I believe, I went to see King Lear with a big group of friends. This picture was taken when Daniel, a good friend, was fiddling with Christy's camera and decided to take this picture. So technically this isn't Christy's picture, but I won't tell if you won't. It's of Christy and me at Subway just before we all went off to The Roxy to see the performance. Click Here to see it.

  2. This image has been changed. The original picture included the background and the top half of his body. She decided to crop it in around his face to focus the viewer's attention on his "wily expression." Technically, the photo isn't really filled with many difficult elements. Although the viewer may not be aware of it, his/her line of vision follows Garrett's shoulder, moves up and around his hair, and then is drawn back to his eyes, making a circular motion. so, no matter where the viewer looks at the picture, his/her eyesight will be drawn back to Garrett's eyes. [Uncropped version]

  3. Christy's photos of Sara seem to be some of her best. This photo is no exception. It was taken on campus in this mondo flower pot in the middle of the side walk. For some reason they let it get really grown over with this grass type stuff. Christy used it to her advantage and let it serve her as an example of "lines." Anyway, This is Sara Hoyal, (She who is always happy to tell you that her name means: "Princess Who Lives in a Hole in the Ground"

  4. A trick many photographers use to make a "good" picture is to have the subject close his/her eyes and then take the picture just as they open them. "I wanted to try this trick and I saw that Gabriel appeared to be sleepy, so I just held the camera in my lap and waited for the shot." She didn't want for him (Me) to be aware of the picture because had he (I) been aware of the shot, it wouldn't have captured the "feeling" in the photo. Click Here.

  5. Christy doesn't like this shot of herself. Most people don't much care for pictures shot of themselves, whether the photo is actually complimentary or not. I personally like this photo of her, and I subsequently asked her to submit it to my page. This photo was taken by a mutual friend, Barbara, and I hope to have a pic of her up here eventually too. 6. "My friends and I were in a coffee shop listening to [music] when I took this picture of Sara. She likes to dress up and that night I happened to have my camera with me. The original shot included more of her, and was very asymmetrical. It included half of her body and the rest of the picture was balanced by the plaid of the couch in the background. Because I wanted the focus on her neck, I made her face out of focus and I found that it made for a nice, elegant photo that I was actually proud of." Click Here.
