Protecting Agricultural Land

Moviment Graffitti would like to remind the public that the proposed
golf course by AX Holdings in tal-Virtu' (Rabat), is threatening
agriculture because it is set on a large agricultural land area the size
of Sliema. To asses the impact of this project, one needs to keep in
mind that since 1957, Malta has lost two kilometres squared of
agricultural land every year.

Chris Ellul in name of Moviment Graffitti pointed out that, "The fact
that Wirt Artna and the Farmers Wine Co-Operative Society are supporting
Xuereb with regards to the golf course, doesn't mean that the project is
an environmentally friendly one. AX Holdings has repeatedly sponsored
heftily the activities of these organizations in the past. On the other
hand, there are 13 organizations members of Front Kontra l-Golf Kors
(Front Against the Golf Course) as well as numerous supporters that have
been opposing the project for a long time."

The environmental impact assessment (EIA) itself is not a balanced one
on the pro's and con's of the project, because it was directly sponsored
by AX Holdings itself.

Chris Ellul also added, "Water in Malta is very scarce, and the golf
course would consume several thousand cubic metres of water which can
easily be used for agriculture."

In the press conference that AX Holdings organized some days ago, Xuereb
maintained that the project will employ about 200 workers, but was short
of explaining how this will take place. Moviment Graffitti would like to
ask what kind of employment AX Holdings will be offering when it is
widely known that it is in economic crisis?

With the go ahead of this project, the agricultural land of the Maltese
people will end up in the hands of AX Holdings and CCA which at the end
only have interest in profit, and not the livelihood of Maltese
agriculture. Moviment Graffitti alongside the Front Kontra l-Golf Kors
therefore keeps on insisting that this project is an unsustainable one
both for the Maltese environment, as well as it's economy. No to further
losses of agricultural land, no to the golf course!

Holdings f'tal-Virtu' ir-Rabat, qieghed jghedded l-agrikoltura lokali
billi jahtaf taht idejh bicca art agrikola kbira daqs tas-Sliema. Dan
meta wiehed iqis li mill-1957 'l hawn Malta tilfet zewg kilometri kwadri
ta' art agrikola kull sena.

Chris Ellul f'isem il-Moviment Graffitti sostna li, "Il-Fatt li hemm
Wirt Artna u l-Farmers Wine Co-Operative Society fuq in-naha ta Xuereb
ma jfissirx li l-progett hu wiehed ambjentalist. Dan ghaliex AX Holdings

irid izomm f'mohhu li hemm 13-il ghaqda membri tal-Front Kontra l-Golf
Kors, kif ukoll diversi sostenituri ohrajn li ilhom zmien twil jopponu

Ta' min wiehed ifakkar li l-EIA ma jistax jitqies bhala wiehed newtrali
minhabba li dan gie iffinanzjat minn AX Holdings innifsu.

Chris Ellul zied jghid, "L-ilma f'Malta huwa skars u l-golf course

ghall-agrikoltura."

Fil-konferenza stampa li AX Holdings organizzat xi jiem ilu, Xuereb

naqas milli jispecifika. Il-Moviment Graffitti jixtieq isaqsi x'tip ta'
impjieg se toffri AX Holdings meta hija kumpanija fi krizi ekonomika?

Bil-go ahead ta dan il-progett, l-art agrikola tal-poplu Malti se
tispicca f'idejn il-kumpaniji AX Holdings u CCA li fl-ahhar mill-ahhar
l-interess taghhom huwa l-profitt u mhux l-ghixien tal-biedja Maltija.
Il-Moviment Graffitti flimkien mal-Front Kontra l-Golf Kors ghalhekk
ikompli jishaq illi dan il-progett mhux wiehed sostenibli, la
ghall-ambjent Malti, u lanqas ghall-ekonomija Maltija. Ghalhekk
