| Moviment ghall-Ambjent Friends of the Earth (Malta) News Release 26.07.02 IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!! Imagine you were one of the thousands of Maltese that lives in a property formerly belonging to the Church and now administered by the Joint Office. Maybe you are. Imagine that one day an application is made to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to turn your house, and several others in the same street, into a hotel. Imagine that the developer argues that you are not looking after your home properly and tells the MEPA that if the houses are passed on to him he will generate millions of Liri which would be of benefit to the nation as a whole. Imagine that the MEPA approved the developer's application. Imagine that all this was true and was happening to you!! Well this is exactly what AX Holdings is proposing to do with up to 100 hundred farming families who work the land near Tal Virtu. This is no dream. It is a nightmare. If the MEPA Board approves the project no member of a farming family will sleep well that night. And never again. No Maltese farmer will sleep comfortably knowing that the land where they work could be taken away from them by people who do not own, and have no legal right, to that land.
