Myakahatchee Creek Park |
Directions: Take I-75 to North Port (about 20-30 miles south of Sarasota) and exit on Sumter Boulevard. Head East for about one mile and turn left on Tropicare. After the bridge, turn immediately right and the Park is about 1/2 mile down the road on the right.
Description of terrain: The trails here are old motorcycle trails (they were actually some of my favorite dirtbike trails). The trail is all singletrack and about half of it is moderately technical, about on par with the blue trails at Barge canal if you are familiar with these wonderful trails in Ocala. I have been here in the past and was not to exited about the trails, but the trail has improved immensely. The scenery is quite wonderful along the creek. There is about 12 miles of trails here.
Description of trail: When you first start out on the 10 to 15 miles of trails you'll head back over the road, north of the bridge, that you came in on. Then follow the meandering path of the Myakahatchee creek and pass under I-75. Keep to the left near the creek and you won't get lost. The trails start out easy, but they change character soon after you cross the interstate. Once you hit Price blvd. you are half way finished now go left on the paved price blvd. Over a bridge and now we head back on the other side of the creek and follow the trail back to your car. There is another state or county park which you come to not to long after this we go under the interstate, and this is where the trail begins to be hard to follow. To avoid getting lost cross over the creek at the county park if it is shallow. If not you can find the way back to Tripicare it is just not that great of trails to there aka. sandy. Take it easy on your first few times out because steep surprises may await you!
