Cels
People often refer to these as 'High
Quality Pictures', and whilst they do look extremely impressive, this isn't what they were
originally designed for.
Cel is short for Celluloid, and it is
generally an image of a character with a blank background, on a transparent plastic sheet.
Using this the editors can make movements swift and realistic by placing one on top of
another, creating an impressive illusion. They are also sometimes used to be place over a
background, making for efficient and more realistic looking scenes.
