POEM OF THE WEEK

by Tom Miller - 11/23/98

me in paradise - you in mind

for ben

me in paradise - you in mind

blank sheets of paper

become poems

an empty coffee cup

and pepsi can

a bowl of sugar

an ink pen

keys

clarity;

essential oil

a lighter

an olympic calendar

the lamp

shines brightly across

my fingers on the keys

the glow

of a computer's sad face

the sound of a siren

a dog

the telephone

quiet

a pile of old laundry

by the feather duster

golf clubs

a green decanter

a picture of polo players

the clock

silently

screaming red time

a bookshelf

an ashtray

the blinds

closed and dirty

and maybe this

is my paradise

a writer's cave

a poet's loves

but i trade it

in a heartbeat

when i think of you
